"How to make accessibility happen?". In this talk, Magdalena Wielopolski and I share what's helping us at @kooth_plc. We hope you find it useful. We'd love to hear any feedback/suggestions to make it better. youtu.be/5p-d7Zssagw

We just shipped the first alpha of React Aria Components, a brand new unstyled component library built on top of the React Aria hooks! 🚀 It abstracts away glue code and provides a much simpler way to quickly build accessible components for your design. react-spectrum.adobe.com/react-aria/rea…

@adambsilver Yes, that's the first thing we looked at. To achieve compliance with the US Children Online Protection Act (COPPA), we're required to present a roadblock to our users (most of them are teenagers) to prevent them from leaving us.kooth.com unknowingly.

@adambsilver I don’t like it either. But I couldn’t think of a better pattern given how specific the legal/adit requirements were.

For @wsj to say flat out that SVB could have failed because they added non-white men to their board shows how far behind the times (and certifiably stupid) this publication really is. It makes me so angry and very sad. WSJ readers and staff deserve better.

@mattpocockuk @getTobiasN Oh, I see. I’m not aware of a way to use `throw` in a type-safe way. When I use purify-ts or fp-ts, I use Either (which is type safe) rather than using throw.

@getTobiasN @jfhector Yep, that's what I'm interested in - if there's any abstraction which can robustly guarantee that my errors are of a certain shape.

Today was my favourite part of my advanced FP class, where we finally get to see the payoff of using the state monad. Even after 25 years of using monads, it still feels like magic :-) youtu.be/WYysg5Nf7AU

@GergelyOrosz Given ChatGPT, do you imagine that big companies will be using these HackerRank/ LeetCode interviews in 2-5 years time?

I talked with a senior software engieer at Big Tech who considered proceeding with the Twitter hiring process. After responding to the recruiter, before talking to anyone, they have to take an hour-long HackerRank test with 2 Leetcode mediums and a Leetcode hard. Really? 🤦‍♂️
Gergely Orosz@GergelyOrosz

What I’m hearing: lots of Microsoft engineers based in the Bay Area are getting a “Hello from Twitter!” recruiter reachout from Twitter recruiters. It’s good news for us Twitter users that Twitter seems to be upping their recruitment activity. If you end up interviewing, DM me.

@elonmusk “Woke” is Conservative-speak for anyone who gives a damn about other human beings/the planet. It is a dog-whistle slur against expressions of humanity that spread resources, opportunity, power, and a voice to more people; a boogeyman for selfish people. johnpavlovitz.com/2021/05/05/whe…

Randomly thinking back to my time at Apple. In 2013 when the iOS side of iTunes U, Podcasts, App Store, and Remote were owned by a team of 7 engineers. Each app source in a different source control. I was lead for iTunes U. I was told a few things by my new manager 1) Don't ...
