Today, students were interrupted from their midterm studies for several hours by loud music and prayers outside their windows. Harvard's historic Quincy Courtyard had been turned into a bazaar selling Hijabs, Burqas and Qurans for an Eid Mubarak celebration hosted by Harvard’s Islamic Society. Large prayer mats covered the grass, speakers blasted Islamic music, and the event (open to the public) attracted dozens of unvetted strangers who roamed outside student dorms. Security intervened only once during the “celebration,” when three Harvard security officers told one of our members he was not allowed to photograph what was happening. Harvard has been captured.

Let's be clear at the outset: If Iran holds a US pilot, that person is a prisoner of war, not a "hostage." The terminology matters and we should insist that the media use the correct language for the situation.

Easter as a cultural holiday is so irritating because its themes/values are so compelling - life triumphing over death, redeeming grace from selflessness - and then the operationalization of that is "giant rabbit lays eggs filled with chocolate"

They are trying to bankrupt the Park Service so they can sell the parks off to the highest bidder. This kind of cut could close smaller Monuments like Tuzigoot and Montezuma's Castle and severely harm the large parks. Communities around the parks rely on tourism.

The Trump Administration Just Announced More Plans to Gut NPS Staff As the Department of the Interior pushes employees into "visitor-facing" roles and proposes to slash $736 million from the National Park Service budget, critics warn that the scientists and stewards who keep our parks alive are once again being purged. outsideonline.com/outdoor-advent…

“If the spread of reading represented the greatest transfer of knowledge to ordinary men and women in history, the smartphone revolution represents the greatest theft of knowledge from ordinary people in history.” I compress @j_amesmarriott’s superb new book into a quote tweet.

Almost certain career-ending party switch in the Hawaii House. State Rep. Elle Cochran (Maui) is a Democrat-turned-Republican and represents a Harris +16 seat (she ran behind Harris's margin by 3 pts). The switch is due to her frustrations with the DEM House Caucus

Delta's CEO said this week that customers "understand if fuel prices are up, you need to cover the cost of business." Fair enough. So let's use the industry's own numbers. IATA, the airline trade body, said fares need to rise by around 9% to cover the fuel spike from the Iran conflict. That is the ceiling the airlines' own organisation set. Jet fuel is up 60% since late February. Some U.S. domestic fares are already up over 100%. A Spirit ticket on one route went from $86 to $193 in four days. Transcontinental fares are up over 100%. Caribbean and Florida routes are seeing the same. United announced this week it is cutting 5% of its flights while raising prices. Fewer seats. Higher fares. That is not covering fuel costs. That is protecting margin on routes where they know you have nowhere else to go. The airlines are not wrong that costs have risen. They are not wrong that some fare increase is justified. But 9% is what it costs to cover the fuel. Anything above that is the airline reading the room. AirfareWatchdog tracks fares on every route. If prices on your route are moving, you will see it before you book. Free to sign up → airfarewatchdog.com/signup/?tid=46 #FlightHacks #TravelIntel #AirlineSecrets #ConsumerRights #AirfareWatchdog

Yet again boomers trying to require people to do things they wouldn't ever do themselves
Rob Schneider 🇺🇸@RobSchneider

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” - John F. Kennedy We must once again recommit ourselves to one Nation under God, indivisible. Therefore, we must restore the military draft for our Nation’s young people. Each and every American, at eighteen years of age, must serve two years of military service. They could also choose to serve part of that time overseas or in country in a volunteer capacity. Being a citizen of the United States gives us unparalleled Freedoms and opportunities that are the envy of the world. However, these Freedoms that we cherish do not come without a cost. By protecting and preserving these Freedoms, young people, regardless of race, creed or religion will be united in service to their country and just as importantly, to each other. Many Nations around the world require their young citizens to serve their country. Until recently, our Nation did as well. This would serve many purposes in our society; We would have all of our young men and women put into a rigorous physical training course that they could use for the rest of their lives, we would always have a standing army ready at all times including for domestic problems like natural disasters. Unlike in today’s Universities, our young people will learn how truly great their country is and how unique and incredible are the Freedoms that this Nation bestows upon them. Service is a solemn reminder of the men and women before them who “paid the last full measure of devotion” so that we may enjoy these Freedoms. Also, very importantly, we would have in service every segment of our society represented so that our elected officials would be more hesitant and not cavalier about sending their own sons and daughters off to a faraway war unless it was truly in our Nation’s interests. This discussion and implementation must begin. To the young people of America, this is your country and your future. We will leave this great and Free Nation in your good hands for your children and for your children’s children. God Bless the United States of America! Love, Rob Schneider

#AlMayadeen's correspondent to South Lebanon, Fatima Ftouni, was martyred earlier today in an Israeli airstrike that directly targeted journalists in the South covering the Israeli aggression on Lebanon. Fatima was in a vehicle clearly labeled "Press" alongside other journalists, including Al-Manar's Ali Sheaib. Fatima was known and loved by all her colleagues, either from her time as an editor in Al Mayadeen Net, or as a correspondent for Al Mayadeen covering the Israeli war of aggression on South Lebanon. Known for her bravery, steadfastness, and forever love for her profession and her constant desire to deliver the message of her people's resistance to the world, she will continue to live within our hearts for the joy she brought us all as a colleague with her warmth, and her dedication to her field. This is not the first time that Al Mayadeen's correspondents have been targeted. Soon after "Israel" began its war on Lebanon, Al Mayadeen's correspondent Farah Omar and Cameraman Rabih Me'mari were martyred in an Israeli aggression on November 21, 2023. Al Mayadeen's Ghassan Najjar and Mohammad Reda were also martyred in another Israeli attack on journalists on October 25, 2024. This is part of "Israel's" systematic attacks on journalists. In the past three years, "Israel" has killed hundreds of journalists across the region, all in an attempt to prevent the broadcasting of the reality of its crimes. #LebanonUnderAttack #Lebanon
