I am so, so proud of my son Wesley Garth’s astrophotography! For years he’s honed his skills, mastering his craft (he’s still only 17 now!). The results speak for themselves. Well done, son, spectacular effort! 🔭 🌌 #Astronomy #Astrophotography Check out: instagram.com/wesleysastroph…

@FastHorseAtDusk @LauraRbnsn “most” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. You’ll find high degrees of scholarly agreement on his reputation as claimed healer & exorcist, calling disciples, concern for poor, condemnation of contemporary religious authority figures, disturbance at temple, trial & execution.

@LauraRbnsn Keep reading that "Readers added context" note taken from Wikipedia's "Historicity of Jesus" entry: "There is no scholarly consensus concerning the historicity of most elements of Jesus's life as described in the Bible..." There we go.

The fact that this idea is so culturally sticky is so bizarre to me. You can just not be a Christian and also acknowledge Jesus was a real person. I don't know why it's emotionally important to people to be like "no, and I need a stupid reason to not be Christian."
🎨Artsy M*rxist 🎨 (commissions closed)@ArtsyMarx1st

posts like this are funny cuz sure, but jesus wasnt a real guy. theres no evidence beyond anecdotal that he was real, and most details of his life are borrowed from other religions. so its like a bunch of ppl arguing over what hercules looked like.

@lucasgarth SoW isn’t fit to lick the boots of any of these folk. He doesn’t even respect the laws of armed conflict, nor can he articulate a coherent strategy beyond bully rhetoric.

@AntipodeEmpire So atheism and agnosticism have grown, but they are still a minuscule percentage. Would a potential interpretation of the data be that something like general theism or deism has absorbed a large proportion of those formally identifying as Christian?

Humans going further in space than ever before in history, and the first time out of Earth’s orbit since 1972, is a huge deal. I think the lack of interest is more the result of the modern algorithm bubbles were all in. People just don’t even know about it. Everyone that learns about this mission (outside of trolls) is excited about it. I told everyone I knew, nobody knew about it, but everyone got excited when I told them.

@johnpauldickson @TheSkepticWiz Note the 2 def’s which had highest levels of support in BOTH groups; -(Faith is) complete trust or confidence in someone or something -(Faith is) the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The Dictionary & the Bible! Not the critics or the apologists!

@TheSkepticWiz Honestly, I'd be surprised if Richard Dawkins himself still "believed" this definition of "faith"! Certainly, the Oxford English Dictionary offers no such definition ... but it does give this: "Faith: Belief based on evidence, testimony, or authority." Seems fair!

@johnpauldickson @TheSkepticWiz I would really like to re run my ‘perceptions of faith” survey that studied actively engaged believers and non-believers’ thoughts on multiple definitions of faith. The disagreement between the groups was decisive and striking - they are talking about different things!

@gmiller @carl_feynman Start with Children of Time. If you prefer more space opera, his Shards of Earth is top shelf. If you prefer fantasy, City of Last Chances. If you prefer biological SF/horror, Alien Clay.

This is the best hard science fiction I've read this year. Much better than the last one in the series. Nice to read some hard science fiction where the hard science is animal behavior, psychology and evolutionary paleontology. "Children of Strife" by Tchaikovsky.

@michaelshermer “No” isn’t principled scepticism. A better response would be “what evidence supports that claim?”. A better reply would then be: “what sort of evidence would you find persuasive?”

I have spent a good part of my career just getting people to believe this was actually happening. Now we are here. With 15 drones, you can lose roughly 1/4 of the B-52 force as it sits idle on the ground. This was always the most concerning scenario. Time to move to hardening. Just a matter of time now till we learn the hard way.
Hey, Dave!@davegreenidge57

Barksdale AFB was hit by multiple waves of drones over a week’s time. The base houses numerous nuclear weapons.

This is one of my very infrequent comments on films - I loved this book, and after seeing the film yesterday, I can report that it is a beautiful, emotional and faithful retelling of Andy Weir’s brilliant story. Rocky and Grace’s relationship is wonderfully portrayed in the film. I will be seeing @projecthailmary again!
