Training teachers without the foundational historical, philosophical, sociological, knowledge of schooling is like training doctors without knowledge of biology.

Someone needs to tell Labor that further tethering education to the labour market does not make you an ally of education, it makes you an ally of that labour market and the Capitalist interests it serves. #auspol

Lowe pointed out last year pop growth > dwelling growth by 1ppt. Didn’t mention last 10 years dwelling growth 20% compared to just 15% pop growth.

@BenPhillips_ANU I was part of a CRC bid that included studying housing back then… really a shame that bid didn’t get over the line. So much of what we are facing today would have benefited. (It was on social inclusion / exclusion.)

The same method NHFIC uses would have found a much more substantial shortage around 2011 and likewise more substantial surplus around 2021.

A housing shortage of 106,000 dwellings (we have 11m dwellings) by 2027 is actually tiny and unlikely to explain much about housing outcomes. smh.com.au/politics/feder…

The people that designed the “Uluṟu Statement From The Heart” can’t even keep their own story straight. They are all over the place with their messaging as they attempt to cover for the PM and back peddle after he was caught misleading the Australian people. Every part of this statement must be put to the Australian people so they know what they are voting for. The attempt at a sleight of hand to keep Australians in the dark is next level.

@BenPhillips_ANU Not sure for education faculty btw. Damage has been massive. And continues. Over regulated to death.

Sky News hosts and L-NP politicians have been left with egg on their faces after the NIAA hosed down false claims the Uluru Statement is “26 pages” — the correct number of pages confirmed to be one. The hysterical mishap mirrors a dystopian Specsavers ad. #auspol

@JeffJL54 I don’t think calling out the current gov for not doing near enough is being anything for the LNP.

@jgladwig The current govt is orders of magnitude better than the LNP. I like how they are running the country. I love their ordered, thought out, planned methods Having said that I don't believe they are doing the min. I desp want more done but I will not be a useful idiot for the LNP

@JeffJL54 @drvolts Good summary. Though the current gov doing more is based on an extremely low bar. Doing minimum might be a better description.

@drvolts The current govt is doing what it promised it would. I would like it to do more. Will do more if given a plan. The opposition cannot be taken in good faith. The Greens are more performance than doers. The Teals are a good force. David Pocock is brilliant.

@Grant_Shep @blue1_jaymarie I reckon they are using too much gov speak. They have a budget issue and don’t want to publicly open a debate in which no one looks good. I think we need more Frank, blunt talk.

@blue1_jaymarie So they are supposedly addressing ‘unsustainable teacher workloads’ but we need to negotiate ‘improving our productivity’. I am so confused 🤷‍♂️

@steven_kolber @cpaterso Good question on whether or not it was ever ‘in policy’ - given policy itself is a post WWII phenomenon. More recent here in Aus. The idea was certainly alive in Univeristies when I arrived during amalgamation. Was a hot topic of debate between the Unis and CAEs.
