between this and the holdo maneuver i feel like i need to sit down and talk to movie writers about military tactics. if you're going to introduce a "clever" maneuver to win a battle, you need to have a reason it wouldn't ordinarily work, or at least a reason nobody's thought of it before.
and the answer probably shouldn't be "it's super dangerous" because war is already very dangerous. if a tactic works, people are going to use it. plus in any sort of modern or sci-fi setting, anything a ship with a crew can do can probably be copied by a specialized design that pilots itself or is piloted remotely.
actual "clever" maneuvers on the battlefield are more likely to be opportunistic. a commander notices an unusual situation and improvises an unexpected solution. or you make use of local knowledge the other side doesn't have. or you read the terrain better and end up in a favorable battlefield position. or you notice a mistake the enemy made and exploit it ruthlessly.
but in order for the maneuver to be cool, you need to explain why it isn't normally possible. otherwise you just make one side look sort of dumb for not seeing it coming.

This moment when a Hammerhead Corvette rams into one Star Destroyer, making it crash into another, and destroying the Shield Gate above Scarif at the end of Rogue One. Never even considered that this was a possibility, so it’s safe to say my mind was blown when I first watched this happen on opening night back in 2016.

@dom_lucre @travisdon1981 There literally a black mirror episode about this

@DesireeAmerica4 I can’t personally imagine using the lift; I know I can pick up the trash and it looks slow. However, I can understand why corporate would mandate it and using the lift would help people who aren’t quite as strong. Ultimately…. Why do people care so much.
English

A Chick-fil-A employee using a mechanical lift to throw away a single trash bag just sparked a massive culture war.
Blue-collar workers filmed it from above, laughing and saying modern men have gotten completely soft. Half the internet agrees, bragging about slinging 50lb boxes into trailers by hand all day.
The other half says Chick-fil-A is brilliant. Fast-food trash is incredibly heavy, and this machine saves employees' backs while preventing massive workers' comp lawsuits.
Are we becoming a weak society, or is this just smart corporate safety?

@agraybee It didn’t take most Jedi 300 years to jump real high and cut things
English

Rise of Skywalker is possibly the worst mainstream Hollywood movie ever made and your criticism is "uuhhh how come that kid could pull the sword out of the stone when all those strong guys couldn't."
Unique Movie Moments 🐬@uniquemoviemom
Powers that took some Jedi 300 years to learn she did it in less than 2 minutes 🤦♂️🤣

Not in Business or First class. People pay to have comfort in Business and First class so they can work, not listen to crying babies.
I don’t want to listen to crying babies when I’m traveling for work and paying more for comfort while I work.

The Matrix (1999) had people out of their seats when Neo saves Trinity with that helicopter drop, one of those moments burned into the brain forever.

What’s the most epic movie moment you’ve ever experienced in a theater?

Really disappointing to see something like Dune fall into comic book slop tropes like bringing back characters from the dead

@Starbucks why? Why would you change the chair recipe. People were too happy and enjoying their drink too much, so you thought, “hey, how can I mess this up.”

@fs_gossips Are we really upset that she prioritized friends and rest after winning Olympic gold?

Alysa Liu shared with Teen Vogue how she spent her time immediately after returning from the Olympic Games:
“I pick hanging out with my friends over a session, and if that makes me a worse skater, so be it. I don't care. I will jeopardize whatever."
"After I won, [there] was no sleep…. I went home and I literally did whatever I wanted for five days. I didn't have any media, and I had no commitments, so it was really great. I got to see a lot of my friends again, and just relax and catch up on sleep. I skated twice just because I wanted to."

@umvelin @NeetNews4Neets I ran my own business for a few years. I enjoyed but I don’t miss the constant worry about whether I had enough clients, taxes, advertising, and all the other million things that go into running a business
English

@NeetNews4Neets And not everyone wants to be a business owners because not everyone wants to deal with the strenuous work that you have to put in when it comes to being a boss, some people would just rather stick to being a “worker” so what a low IQ take from Nick Fuentes

@GuntherEagleman Wow, the richest man on earth pays the most in taxes….. someone should really check on him. Make sure he’s ok

@it_unprofession I call BS on this. My kids have had either chrombooks or iPads for the last ten school years. It’s a $20/ year tech fee.
English

My kid's school just sent an email about their "1:1 device program."
Every student gets an iPad. The school is very excited about "technology-enhanced learning."
The iPad costs $800. Paid by parents. Plus $200/year for "device insurance and management."
I asked what happens if we don't want to buy the iPad. They said it's mandatory for the curriculum.
So it's a $1,000 textbook that plays games and breaks when you drop it.
I asked what software they're using that requires an iPad specifically. Teacher said "various educational apps."
I asked which ones. She sent me a list. I looked them up. They all have web versions that work on any device.
So they don't need iPads. They want iPads. And they're making parents pay for it.
But I can't be the parent who fights the iPad program because then I'm the asshole who doesn't support education technology.
So I'm writing a $1,000 check for an iPad my kid will use to watch YouTube during class.
The school gets to say they're "innovative." Apple gets to sell 500 iPads. Parents get to fund it.
And in three years they'll switch to Chromebooks and we'll do this again.

@rothschildmd I’m pretty sure that’s what Michale bay’s brain looks like. All it’s missing is Megan Fox in a bikini
English

But this isn't a movie, it's just three minutes of stuff happening to someone I don't care about, for reasons that don't feel tangible. There's no story, there's nothing I'm meant to feel or think. It's not even entertaining. It's just whizbang booms with no meaning or impact.

@marimerenda I binged all eight seasons without having seen any of it before…. Daenerys was always teetering on the edge. Half the job of Tyrion and Varys was to stop her from setting things on fire
