My 94 yo great aunt was laid to rest today.
One of the strongest individuals from a tough generation.
She made the best Greek desserts, feeding younger generations’ stomachs while feeding our imagination as with her WWII stories.

The national parks are a US treasure. They should be fully funded. Not subject to Trump's effort to cut funding and restrict their operations
Nature Is Nonpartisan@NINP_org
The National Park Service ran on a $3 billion budget and generated $56 billion in economic output in 2024. That’s over $17 back for every $1 invested. With a record of 332 million visitors last year, Americans clearly care about their parks and expect them to be funded.

@RationalyYours @Acyn 56% of Texans are registered Democrat, yet 80% of elected seats belong to republicans. Ever wonder why?
English

@Acyn The left has been do ing partisan gerrymandering for about 20 years, they have at least 5 states that are tottally blue yet the people are ~50/50.
The left can only lie and blame others for what they are doing.
English

Reporter: What do you make of Republicans saying that Virginia—
AOC: Wah wah wah.
We have asked Republicans for 10 years to ban partisan gerrymandering. And for 10 years, Republicans have said no. Republicans have fought for partisan gerrymanders across the United States of America. And these are the rules that they have set.
And so if the Republican Party wanted to start this, they did this in North Carolina. They drew out three Democratic members of Congress in North Carolina. They did it in Texas.
What they’re just mad at is that they have been accustomed to a Democratic Party that rolls over, doesn’t fight, and takes everything sitting down. And what they’re mad at right now is that we are here in a new day. And we have been asking the Democratic Party to stand up and fight, and now they did—and now the Republican Party doesn’t like the fact that they are fighting against someone who actually will stand up for the American people.
So if Republicans decide that they would like to revisit a ban on partisan gerrymandering, I welcome them. We have the bill right here to end this all today. But they don’t want to, because they like pursuing and continuing to enact an unfair electoral landscape. And so we have an obligation to defend ourselves.

After her 7th bout with cancer, my mom passed away peacefully this morning. She was surrounded by family and I held her hand at the end. She taught me to love life, and to fight for justice.
To eat a meal with my mom meant to savor every morsel. It was never just a chocolate croissant. It was THE BEST chocolate croissant she had ever eaten. And it needed to be warmed to the perfect temperature so that the chocolate was a little bit melty. We could not go see a movie or a play without mom psycho-analyzing every character defect and insecurity. She also did that with all of the women I dated (expect for my wife Reena who is a perfect angel). Her humor was wicked and irreverent.
Later in life mom developed a deep conscience and commitment to social justice. She marched for Civil Rights and helped register voters in the Mississippi Freedom Summer. In college, she put her body on the line to protest the Vietnam War. As an adult, her activism turned to academics. She taught social work at Smith College and wrote the definitive text on psychodynamic theory. Her book is taught in almost every social work school in the country. My mom loved to mentor young people. Everywhere I go, former students come up and tell me how much she meant to them. I became a teacher and a public servant to follow in her footsteps.
Watching my mom lose her physical prowess has been painful. These last few months of disappointing diagnoses and worsening symptoms have been draining. A woman who jogged ten miles per day could barely walk a few blocks. The world will be less bright and brilliant without her in it. But mom, I am so incredibly proud and grateful for the life you gave me. You’ve earned your rest. We love you.
