2025 Corn has been shorter than normal but we are getting what we can that’s for sure.

When I raise a crop (annuals or perennials) and use my cows to harvest it and leave all those nutrients behind that’s grazing. If I mechanically harvest it and have to haul that back out then it’s feeding.

@4FAngusBoy @CowsnRedbirds @Nebraskero @CBKimbrell @jhozack It also comes down to how we define “grazing” and “feeding”. If corn grazing, swath grazing, and bale grazing is “grazing” then yeah, year round grazing is easy in any climate

If haying was invented today I don’t think many ranches would be interested. $200k in machinery to increase forage quality by 30%!? And I do the work instead of my cattle?! You’re insane.

@GrassTraveller I would struggle to find 6 people to help me do that many with a cradle but have no problem finding the crew for a rope branding. For me brandings are great social activities as well but each to their own. 🤷‍♂️

We can work 250 head of calves in an afternoon with 6 ppl running two cradles. Please explain to me why you need 40-50 ppl at a branding.

@garrett_wolf3 A friend of mine made one out of an old narrow fuel tank. Just laid the auger in the bottom and has a little electric motor on it and mounted it on an old sprayer trailer. I can see if he could send me a pic.
