Do you like fairy tales? Do you like playing games? Do you like engineering? Well you're in luck, because all three are combined at our annual MechE arcade event this Thursday, 4/16! This event is fun, exciting, and you don't need to bring any quarters to play the games!

Chronic pancreatitis is difficult to manage because clinicians lack a reliable, non-invasive way to measure pressure inside the pancreatic duct and better identify who may benefit from intervention. Researchers addressed this gap by combining magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP)-derived duct anatomy with computational fluid modeling to estimate pancreatic duct pressure and detect pancreatic ductal hypertension. They validated the approach against endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) manometry and found that simulated pressure drops aligned with invasive measurements, while also tracking with pain relief after decompression. A simplified quasi-one-dimensional model closely matched full simulations, enabling faster, scalable estimation for clinical use. Providing a non-invasive, physiology-informed way to assess ductal pressure could support more precise treatment decisions and improve outcomes for those living with chronic pancreatitis. In @nytimes: Did life originate on Earth or hitch a ride from… elsewhere? ☄️ Prof. K.T. Ramesh and team fired metal plates at microorganisms, simulating asteroid impacts that could blast rocks (and life?) from one planet to another. The 🦠 survived! nytimes.com/2026/03/03/sci…
Dr Robin George Andrews 🌋☄️@SquigglyVolcano

NEW: Are we the descendants of alien microbes that hitched a ride on meteors shorn off Mars? Probs not…but scientists wondered if it’s possible for bacteria to survive asteroid strikes. So they fired missiles at them in a lab to find out. Me @NYTScience nytimes.com/2026/03/03/sci…

Can alien life survive being shot across space onto another planet? Dr. K.T. Ramesh says...probably! “This is a really big deal that changes the way you think about the question of how life begins and how life began on Earth.” Full story here: me.jhu.edu/news/ramesh-st…
