Who gives a rip about recruitment. Recruitment happens at the public school as well as the private school. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. Public schools that truly care about football all attract talent, as they should. Talented kids and their families are approached by alumni and parents of public and private school alike. Others intentionally seek out a program that cares about football and have great coaches. And I don’t blame them for wanting to be a part of a healthy program vs what might be offered in their school district. It’s called a free market. Don’t tell me that Lincoln Way East, East, St. Louis, Rochester, Batavia, and many other public school have better athletes just falling from the sky. These programs are all “recruiting” at the youth football level. They are attracting families into their districts. I can name 5-10 kids in any good public program than moved into district just to play football at a good public school. Want to really solve the problem? Implement school of choice like Michigan does. If you are a good football program, kids come to you from 30 miles away and use their tax dollars. That’s freedom. Illinois will never allow that.

The annual media call with football coaches around the state who advanced to the title games is usually a little dull, but heartwarming and informative. That was not the case yesterday. Mount Carmel coach Jordan Lynch lit a fire with one of his quotes. chicago.suntimes.com/high-school-fo…

For those who played CPS schools, the playoffs officially begin now. The unfortunate part of all this is wondering how many good 4-5 teams that didn’t get in could have beaten higher seeds, or at least earned a right to play one more game.

The Public League finished 0-22 against the rest of the state in the first round of the IHSA football playoffs and was outscored 1,079 to 163. Two Public League teams did advance, Morgan Park and Dyett. Both of those teams faced Public League opponents in the first round.

@DigginTakes I’ve always said… Kids should play multiple sports and kids should be allowed to be kids. I’m not against advanced leagues, better competition, etc. But no kid should be playing one sport all year & no kid should be training “like a pro” until at least HS. They’re kids.

@Giannoulias Alexi, there's got to be a balance. You're a father. Imagine one of your kids reading this. twitter.com/FiveTimesAugus… I don't agree with censorship, but upholding our law should be a given. If someone did what this author wrote about, they would be rightfully jailed by our LE.

From my own city’s ISD board meeting last night. When the media smears Texas for “banning” books listen to what she reads here and you tell me if you’re okay with kids having access to it. 🤮 This has to stop now.

This is bananas and represents (again!) the dangers of book banning. We shouldn’t be surprised about the absurdity occurring in Miami-Dade County. That’s why we’re proactively fighting this threat to our democracy here in Illinois. #HB2789
Really American 🇺🇸@ReallyAmerican1

Unreal: Florida elementary schools in Miami-Dade county are taking the book banning to new heights, this time banning the poem that was read at President Biden's inauguration by poet Amanda Gorman. How were they able to get this done at all, let alone across the entire county? *One* parent demanded that the poem be taken out of the libraries, saying it was "inappropriate" for students. In addition to Gorman's poem, the deranged parent who was able to get this done successfully also challenged four additional books: The ABCs of Black History, Cuban Kids, Countries in the News Cuba, and Love to Langston. She claimed that these books were filled with "indirect hate messages" that were inspired by critical race theory. The director of research and insight at the Florida Freedom to Read Project responded to this absolute atrocious ruling to ban the poem, and books across the state, saying that the type of books being banned show a concerted effort to target "books that address ethnicities, marginalized communities, racism or our history of racism." Should *one* parent be able to do this? Should a team of parents be able to do this? Where is the line? Who draws it? This is insane.

@elonmusk You’ve done so much damage to your image and the Tesla brand. It’s disheartening to a Tesla owner and shareholder as myself who has supported you and the company for years. I know a lot of people in similar positions feel the same. Either begin to repair the damage or step down.

@wbmtnops Watching this fiasco. Did we not know earlier there would be ice after 30cm of wet snow overnight? Could have started the process earlier.

Six former Wheaton Academy Warriors played in the Wheaton/North Central JV game last Saturday night. 14 Warrior FB players are on both teams' rosters. Both college programs are in the top 10 of DIII football. Playing good football doesn't have to end in high school.

@jordanblack78 That's 🧢......some of that is true, but if coaches didn't care, why do they run 7v7 at their own camps 🤔. Personally speaking, I've never had a coach ask me if a kid was a team captain, and if he wasn't, they stopped recruiting him.

@WCIA3Bret While the IHSA can make rules to its member schools based on the governor’s guidance which its members MUST follow, club teams do not have to follow the governor’s guidance if they do not choose to. Guidance is not enforceable. It’s just that - guidance.
