@zachwolfelaw The problem is that lawyers will only hire other lawyers or retired judges as mediators. If you want true diversity, look at community mediators, former Ombuds, or other kinds of neutrals. But that's not going to happen because lawyers expect legal opinions from mediators. Why?

There’s a diversity problem with mediators and arbitrators. Most of them are older white men, of course. But even aside from that, most of them come out of the “corporate” perspective. How many were plaintiff’s lawyers, or civil rights lawyers, or public interest lawyers?

Today’s mediation participants’ final words to me as they left the conference room were, “That was fun. Liz”. 🤔 That’s the first time I have heard anyone use that adjective to describe their mediation experience.
