Batman begins featured a secret society of people who wanted to let the world’s own vices lead to the collapse of civilization, and a rich heir who tries to stop it. He’s essentially rooting for Dagny not to go on strike. His skills aside, I don’t think he’s the one to do the film.

I will take the degrowth movement seriously when its leaders go first.
Give up the flights, conferences, universities, hospitals, smartphones, heated homes, air conditioning, imported food, shoes, clothes, soap, online banking, and every other convenience built by the growth they now condemn.
Until then, please stop asking poor people to make your ideology look virtuous.

This is the reverse of the dad bod discourse.
Men understand that women are primarily attracted to resource provision; if they are not the provider, it makes them feel insecure about the woman wanting to “upgrade.”
Women understand that men are primarily attracted to physical beauty. If a man is the “pretty one” in the relationship, it makes the woman feel insecure. Hence: the “dad bod” which is one way of saying “big and strong but not ripped and aesthetic; function (strength/protection) without emphasis on form.”
This is why the most successful women tend to be married to *more* successful men, and the most attractive men are married to *more* attractive women. You commonly see attractive but unsuccessful women with unattractive but successful men, but you rarely ever see attractive but unsuccessful men with unattractive but successful women.
Basically everything wrong in modern relationships comes from 3-4 decades of trying to socially engineer society to ignore this basic fact of biology.
For men, “grinding in your 20s” - ie sacrificing youth for career success - will most often be a net positive for relationship success. For women, it will most often be a net negative.
Saying “we should have a society where women should be able to pursue any and all career paths” is fine. Saying “you can have it all” without thoughtfully acknowledging that there are trade-offs to this which more strongly penalize women given inescapable and immutable biological realities has created a generation of very unhappy people who have optimized on the wrong variables.
“Why aren’t men attracted to my resume?” is the same as a man saying “why aren’t women more attracted to my ripped gym bod?” It’s not that it’s not a positive; it’s that the tradeoffs required to get it are often unfavorable.
Women do love a good set of abs, but they understand that every hour a man spends in the gym is a tax on his future income. And most don’t want a man prettier than they are.
Men do like successful women, but they understand that career success comes at the cost of self care (read: physical beauty) and fertility. And most don’t want a woman wealthier than they are.
Exceptions exist, obviously, but most people aren’t exceptional, by definition.

No…I’m quite familiar with her works. As with many on the Right, I was convinced of her genius.
It took me decades to realize where her “philosophy” will inevitably end.
It cannot end with a separatist state, devoid of socialistic thought and resplendent with individualist works. No, it can only end in subjugation and the knowledge that we abandoned our children and grandchildren to the machinations of the Left.
You could not have written a more perfect battle plan for the Left than the total capitulation Rand crafted with her works.

Paul Krugman on the US versus Europe: “Yes, Europeans have smaller houses and cars than Americans do. Many of them also, as everyone has lately become aware, lack air conditioning. But they have much more economic security than most Americans, lower economic inequality, longer life expectancy, and more leisure time.”
I like including "lower economic inequality” on the plus side for Europe. They might roast alive because of lack of air conditioning, but they can die knowing that there isn’t an upper class that is too comfortable.
This reflects a sick value system.
