A powerful moment in Rockland County today as President Trump announced that Welles Crowther will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Welles, “The Man in the Red Bandana,” embodied courage, sacrifice, service to others, and the definition of a hero. He saved over a dozen lives on September 11, 2001.
The Hudson Valley will always be proud to call him one of our own.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to Rockland County and 9/11 hero Welles Remy Crowther. He would have been 49 today.
On September 11, 2001, when the World Trade Center was attacked, Welles put others before himself and immediately jumped into action. He saved at least a dozen people that day.
His red bandana has become a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the power of one person to make a difference.
Happy Birthday, Welles. We will never forget you in Rockland County.

We are seeing far too many young women diagnosed with breast cancer, and waiting until age 40 or 45 for screenings can mean missing the opportunity for early detection.
That’s why I’ve introduced the Early Access to Screening Act, to expand access to preventative care and increase early detection by lowering the age to 30 years old.

I’m glad Sgt. Duran has been released on bail, back home with his family. His conviction was a grave miscarriage of justice and must be overturned. He took action to save lives and prevent other officers from being mowed down.

Congratulations to Clarkstown Police Chief Jeff Wanamaker on his well deserved retirement after a nearly four-decade career in law enforcement in the Town of Clarkstown.
Chief Wanamaker is a Nyack High School graduate, a volunteer firefighter, and has served in many roles in the department before becoming Chief during his 39-year tenure with the Clarkstown Police Department. Thank you for your service and dedication to the residents of Clarkstown and Rockland County.

Birth to age 10 is an eternity. 11 to 20 also takes forever. 20 to 30 sneaks up on you a little bit. 30 to 40 picks up some steam, and 40 to 50 glides by. 50 to 60 appears so far to have a jet engine.

Fern Turkowitz enjoyed a 47-year career at The NY Times in which she ran the Sports Dept. If you had an issue, she solved it. If you had a question, she answered it. Forever an ally, Fern did everything with a caring touch. She passed away on Sunday. RIP to a great friend. 🙏
