Today the #RedSox reportedly acquired LHP Erik Miller ($4.6M surplus trade value) from the #SFGiants in exchange for IF Marcelo Mayer ($27.9M).
The deal is rejected by our model as an overpay by Boston.
@redsoxstats In reality it’s one top 50 guy. This system can clearly churn out top arms. Seems like an overpay, but it doesn’t freak me out all that much.
I think my overall thought is this feels like a GFIN trade that a true juggernaut needing a final piece would make. I guess the Sox think the last month is indicative of what's to come going forward. Maybe a playoff chase ignites him. Feels like a wild bet by Breslow for his job.
For those freaking out. Yes you have to extend him with that trade haul, however this is the price for a position that’s very scarce. If Adley can stay healthy it’s a fantastic trade for the Red Sox.
@tylermilliken_ If Arias is such a hot commodity why is he still in Worcester? Mayer & Story have been injured yet they seem to be ok with Monesterio & Cheng. Their pitching staff was the best in the AL before the Early trade. Move Narvaez orWong & get Langeliers. Answers off. & def. deficiency.
Craig Breslow and Paul Toboni work out a deal for the first time. Jake Bennett joins the Sox org.
Bennett’s breakout makes Connelly Early more expendable.
Breslow and Toboni link up on another deal with Early now going to Washington to address their lack of controllable pitching.
Funny how things work out and one deal leads to another.
@RepThomasMassie Your parents never sent you to school, did they? Israel has played a foundational role in developing the American defense industry and shaping it into what it is today. No one taught you that, did they?
Final vote total for the NDAA today which tragically merges our military technology and supply chains with Israel’s. Let’s hope this version fails in the Senate because Section 219 is a betrayal of our sovereignty.
@SamHill_14@jayhaykid If he somehow manages to shed his entire career moxy of being an overall mediocre to above average pitcher (2.5 good seasons in 14 years) , yeah he's definitely in the conversation this year but I think he fades.
AL Cy Young check-in:
We're now up to a gap of 24 ⅔ IP between Cam Schlittler (123 IP) and Dylan Cease (98 ⅓ IP), but the gap in fWAR is just 0.1 in favor of Schlittler (3.8 to 3.7).
Cease pitches tonight against Tampa Bay.
