@bmainzer Some people wanted him to be Kamala's VP pick. His Israel stance would have cost her even more votes than her wishy washy stance on Gaza/failure to distance herself from Biden already did.

One of the reasons that Israel gets away with ethnic cleansing and apartheid is because American Jewish leaders fail to speak directly to what is happening. Israel has implemented a more complete version of apartheid on the West Bank that S. Africa ever was able to achieve.

Gov. @JoshShapiroPA on Gov. @GavinNewsom referring to “apartheid” in 🇮🇱: “We have to use words rooted in reality.” (int’l human rights orgs have called it apartheid — including B'Tselem, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty Int’l, UN…) Full @PodSaveAmerica ep: youtu.be/DA1lSCP12so?si…

@bmainzer It might not actually matter in the end because the administration acts with impunity as we’re all wiped out, but it would be nice if the opposition leadership had moral and strategic fortitude greater than a puddle of piss

@bmainzer @Osint613 @NadelParis She's currently on the "more people were deported under my husband and Barack Obama, without killing American citizens and without putting children into detention camps" train, as if expansions of DHS/ICE under them provided no precedent to now.

@Osint613 @NadelParis I disagree. Trump always had the potential to do what he did. In Trump 1.0 he had some people around to control him. Now in the second term he is in total control and is fully in on destroying America for his master Putin.

Hillary Clinton on Trump: When he lost in 2020, I think it broke something in him. I think he could not believe that he had been turned out, which is why he instigated the attack on our Capitol and why, to this day, he denies the facts of that election. I don’t know whether it was some psychic wound that he cannot heal, or whether he physically and mentally has become so obsessed that he can’t really live in the truth based on evidence. I don’t know the answer. We speculate about it a lot, because his language, his physical behavior, there are things going on with him that are very different than they were 10 years ago.

@bmainzer I think most good historians would analyze the decades-long motivations behind the actions and not analyze what happened in a vacuum.

@jmainzer A good historian simply points out the recurring tendencies but is willing to point out exceptions. Every once in awhile, sometimes the right thing is done. Your arguments would be better if you recognize that and realize that it does not diminish your overall argument.

@bmainzer The U.S. has still since WWII cherry picked the humanitarian crises in which it intervenes based on what will eventually benefit their hegemony. If anything, Rubio is being more honest than his predecessors!

@jmainzer Bosnia, Kosovo and the first Gulf War are the exceptions to otherwise imperialistic wars. But I said "supposed to" . Rubio is making it official. Defend culture of white supremacy.

@bmainzer Because he, like all Republicans and even some Democrats, are just climbers. They'll adopt whatever position benefits them as long as they rise in the ranks and rake in the dough.

How does a former US Senator that based his career on opposing dictatorships and totalitarian regimes end up enabling the takeover of the world by autocrats?

.@SecRubio: "The world is changing very fast right in front of us. The old world is gone ... We live in a new era in geopolitics, and it's going to require all of us to sort of re-examine what that looks like and what our role is going to be."
