Over the past couple of years I have become a bit of a @Cloudflare fanatic. The products... the dev experience... the scale... the global footprint... the mission. Just love it.
And this week I have unlocked bias level: Cloudflarian.
Very excited to help build a better internet!
Today is Firewatch's tenth anniversary. It remains the thing I'm most proud to have worked on. There's more of me inside of Firewatch than in any other game—and I have no doubt there are others on the team who would say the same about themselves. Thanks to everyone who played it.
@berthon_jones What version of Positron are you using? If it's a recent version, could you share a diagnostics report with us? (from the Command Palette, Positron Assistant: Collect Diagnostics)
I got very excited about Claude this anthropic that, enough to bother getting Positron and forking out for the Anthropic API code to run Claude. And yet I constantly get the below types of messages, anytime I try and interact with the chatbot. Doesn't seem seamless!
positron (@posit_pbc) is a great especially as an iteration on rstudio but oh man the startup time/idle load is annoyingly bad? feels like an area that could be dramatically improved.
Bandcamp Friday.
Pre 2016 releases are available from the archive until midnight (pst) on saturday.
Thanks for listening once again, I am doing 60% off for the last BC Friday of 2025. Thanks for being here, and see you in 2026!
the code is: powdersnow
Earlier this year, I gave a keynote at posit::conf(2025).
It was meant to be a talk about Positron, but as I was writing it, it took a left turn through the history of RStudio and into the philosophy of tool design & how to build stuff for people.

Hey look, a smartwatch that doesn't need charging every day, reads better outdoors, doesn't send data to big tech companies, and has an open source OS! This is so fun.
Thanks, @ericmigi, for bringing @Pebble back.
new Kelly Moran track is ~gorgeous~ and I dig the more fleshed out, arpeggiated direction she's taking. last album was a masterpiece so I'm pretty stoked for this next one

@mitchscotthayes Not every album is great but there are some gems! Lately I've been loving this one which is frankly probably just a short loop played over and over but gives me wonderful melancholy disintegration loops vibes celer.bandcamp.com/album/could-i-…
oh yeah, my son has become an Avalanches believer. every time his best friend is in my car, they both request "Frontier Psychiatrist" and I think that's pretty cool
Disappointed in @Apple quality today.
I have a 2013 MacBook that still works.
Today, I learned that my 3 year old, $3,500 MacBook has a failed logic board and Apple recommends "recycling" it. It's 3 months out of Apple Care.
You don't make 'em like you used to, @Apple .
@funkentechno One time we were camping and it was late at night and my daughter (4 years old at the time) couldn't sleep so I read to her aloud from the book I happened to be reading which was The Employees and it was just the perfect amount of dissociative narrative for that moment
I'll be taking your questions on RStudio, Positron, and friends at @positpbc's Data Science Hangout w/@kjhealy tomorrow (5/29) @ 12pm ET.

@_motherslug I was reminded of these folks recently when I learned that Chicken Soup for the Soul, Inc. is the parent company of (guess before you finish reading) ... Redbox.
Chicken Soup for the Soul was so fucking unhinged. I guess they are still around but the 1990s/early 2000s marks the peak of their increasingly funnier expansion into markets like "working women" and "the entire dental team."
