Islamabad formally activated a transit corridor with Tehran this week. Gwadar, Karachi, and Port Qasim are now designated entry points for goods moving into Iran, replacing the role Jebel Ali has historically played. Over 3,000 Iran-bound containers have been stranded at Karachi since the U.S. naval blockade began. The shortest route, Gwadar to the Iranian border, takes roughly 2 to 3 hours and could cut transport costs by up to 55 percent compared to Karachi.
