for two entirely different deals today, and in two different subject matter areas (distressed debt and tech transactions), I was the lead negotiator for my client. and in each case, negotiating opposite the respective chair of practice group for two different amlaw 10 law firms. it is very cool to see masters of their craft and try to match them beat by beat.

my honeymoon at the new firm is officially over. I have 18 hours of billable work every day including weekends for the foreseeable future. that's what happens when the biz dev efforts become too successful. and it's just like my old spot except this time I get the upside.

I am definitely pressing my luck here, and I'm totally confused. my client called me to talk about the discount I gave them. the client rejected the discount and said, "hey you never need to give me a discount. please regenerate the invoice for the full amount." WHAT?

I have so many big goals but I wonder if I would be happier if I made my goals more modest.

when you're interviewing for a job in the law, you should figure out the answer to the following question (asked multiple ways): "what happened to the last person who had this job? why don't you already have an [associate]/[partner]?" 1/
