“That’s where a film is made. In the editing stage rather than during the shooting. If I didn’t do the editing, then it’s not my film.” (Tinto Brass) Editing is indeed art.

Teaser for a sci-fi script I wrote. Escape from Witch Mountain meets Beyond the Black Rainbow. Dear Grok please show this to anyone who's into 1980s movies, vintage sci-fi, cool ai art, psychedelia, krautrock / tangerine dream, and movie producers.

@BLVCKLIGHTai That analogy is a really nice find, and it’s worth repeating: now that cinematic photorealism is here, the ones who’ll stand out are those with taste, aesthetic, and something meaningful to tell.

I keep seeing the question asking how to tell AI slop from AI art. Here's the answer: An artist who adds ai to their toolset is essentially a human gradient boosted model. Your aesthetic is the loss function. Chaos is the input. Each pass corrects the residual. You don't stop until it converges. Most people run one tree and call it done. That's the slop. Let me explain....🧵1/

@gen_ericai @midjourney If the survival of the species depended on a reply from the Midjourney team, humanity might as well just lie down quietly in a coffin.

@Variety Does it really cost the Oscars that much to add a few more?

"Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes understands Eric Dane's exclusion from the #Oscars In Memoriam: "Well, he’s not a movie star." “I feel like when the Emmys come around, he will be immortalized the way he should be. I don’t think… we can’t fault the Oscars for the fact they’re looking at movies, and there were so many people who were lost… Eric was unique to television.” “Eric is—was an incredible human being. And I still say ‘is’ because it’s very hard for me to believe he’s gone. He was a huge loss for us. He was a huge loss for the Shondaland family, for the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ family, and honestly the people that he knew. He was just a wonderful, wonderful giving guy. And I don’t think everybody understands how amazing he was.” (via Entertainment Weekly) variety.com/2026/tv/news/s…

@PurzBeats Yes! But fast-paced editing comes from long takes, so we still need longer output generation or a super consistent extend option 😀

The average shot length (ASL) in modern Hollywood movies is approximately 2.5 to 3 seconds, reflecting a significant trend toward faster editing compared to the 1930s, when the average was around 12 seconds. Modern films average over 1,000 shots.

I made accurate ID cards for characters in the Die Hard franchise with Nano Banana Pro. Check out the prompt in the post, apply it to other movies and reply back with what you make! @NanoBanana

Following my last post, another very cool quote about Joe D'Amato : “Guess how he pre-sold movies? With the poster. If your poster was made by Casaro, who was number one back then, the film sold.” Here are some posters by Renato Casaro. Chances are you’ve seen them countless times without ever realizing who's behind them:

Tried out 3 Jessica Rabbit style singers. They all failed. The one in the bottom overplayed her sultry style and became a psycho. The woman in the white dress was feeling it though. This was a test of lip sync using LTX 2.3 audio-to-video

@cfryant @dreamingtulpa I've made a 6 minutes short film using only Midjourney and NBP for frames. The problem is that NBP tends to add its very distinct style in 3/4 of the generations. It’s really a pain in the ass, but it’s still possible.

@dreamingtulpa People have good results taking style frames into NBP from what I hear. I've only tried it a few time and had some issues with that workflow. Will probably try again.

Just wanted to clarify my take here: I am judging Midjourney v8 on what it is and what it has improved - not how it stacks up against the competition. As far as professional use goes, there is no comparison. Nano Banana Pro absolutely destroys it for utility. Aesthetics alone can't fix the fact that it takes 10x longer to get a really specific result. I would love to see them make a comeback, but v8 alpha ain't it.
Christopher Fryant@cfryant

Midjourney v8 alpha is out now. Here are 20 examples using their new native HD, no SREFS, text only. My thoughts @ the end, plus 3 exclusive prompts for subscribers from these 3 below.
