Marvel is calling Brand New Day "beloved by fans." Brand New Day followed One More Day, where Peter Parker made a deal with the devil to erase his marriage to Mary Jane Watson. Then it was three years of Spider-Man comics written by a rotating crew of writers, none of whom could give the book a consistent voice. Peter felt like a different person every few issues. Without MJ he felt like less of a person entirely. Dan Slott wrote much of it. He's back. At WonderCon 2025 he described handling fan questions about the Superior Spider-Man run by yelling down the convention line: "PETER PARKER IS DEAD! HE'S NEVER COMING BACK!" Slott has spent years blocking critics, dismissing fan dissatisfaction as a comprehension failure, and turning Black Cat into a murderer because Doc Ock punched her once. Marvel's direct market share has collapsed from 37.5% to 29.4% in twelve months. DC leads for the first time in years. Their move is to put the guy fans have been arguing with for fifteen years back on Spider-Man to celebrate an era the readership considers a low point. Peter and MJ belong together. BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death. Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas. At one point during the trial, jurors broke down in tears while hearing audio of Horner killing Athena after he told her to take off her shirt and said she was "really pretty." Athena repeatedly asked for her mother before she was killed. "Horner is then heard asking Athena to remove her shirt, and there are several moments when she says "no" and asks for her mom. That was followed by repeated sounds of crying, screaming and banging," NBC reported last month. Following three hours of deliberation today, Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
