Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas said she has received death threats and been called racial slurs in the aftermath of last week's incident involving Caitlin Clark. Thomas had received a one-game suspension after she made contact with her fist to Clark's throat. spr.ly/6010BDLn74

@PeAnUtH3aD @BigBobby50 @CoonsScott @TigersJUK You are correct but that was the best #’s in 24 years and way up from the year before. The nba has been modifying some rules to make it better. The late teens and just before the pandemic was unwatchable due to all the flops and touch fouls.

@TigersJUK Unfortunately all of the flopping and crying is what turns off most Americans and is why soccer players are viewed as soft. My kids have played club since they were 8 years old, so I have grown to appreciate the game.

@JuanG_Arango No, you are the ignorant one. He is 100% correct. You don’t have to be a freak of nature to play futbol, you have to be highly skilled and in control athletically. To be in the nba and nfl you have to be enormous first then have athletic gifts second.

@parthpunter Funny how you turn a simple joke into all this. I was boots on the ground over there for a year. I am still in contact with multiple people from there. They don’t care about jokes they are happy to be in the WC

Hosting a Football World Cup is such a beautiful opportunity to bring people together. For Americans, it's an opportunity to showcase how stupid and ignorant they are. After Bosnia and Herzegovina qualified for the round of 32, a broadcaster "joked" that she could not point out where it was on the map. Leave aside the obvious problems with that joke. Bosnia and Herzegovina is the kind of story a broadcaster dreams to talk about. Their participation in the World Cup goes beyond football. The country came into existence in 1992 after declaring independence from Yugoslavia, and was immediately subjected to a genocide, turning football grounds into graveyards. The serbian leadership within Yugoslavia wanted to create a greater Serbia. The independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina went against that idea, leading to an armed conflict. The Bosnian Muslims and Croats were at the receiving end of it. More than 1 Lakh killed. Two million displaced. The violence finally concluded in 1995. But the Dayton Accord, the peace agreement brokered by the US, left Bosnia and Herzegovina a fractured and polarised society. It established Bosnia and Herzegovina as a single state containing two autonomous entities: The Bosniak-Croat Federation and the Serb-majority area. For a country marred in daily political tug of war, their journey so far at the World Cup is nothing short of historic and full of hope. It is potentially a cross-ethnic uniting force in a divided country. To miss all of that and reduce them to a country you can't find on the map is simply pathetic.

Children born to illegal immigrants on American soil are just as human as those born to American citizens. Why is this so hard for people to see?

Again rookie question. All these world class athletes I’ve been watching. How do I continue to watch these guys when they go back to their club teams-Now that I’ve seen them I want to keep watching them-I’m sure this sounds ridiculous but how do you watch these guys on their club teams when you live in the US? Are all these great players in the same league? When is their season? And how do you buy a package to keep watchin these ballers? And are the crowds like this for club matches or just the WC? The energy is what really draws me in (along with the crazy skill). And lastly how do I find a team to follow? Other than the obvious guys like Messi/Renaldo-Mbappé the other guy I love is #2 on Morocco Hakimi. Who is his club team? Maybe that’s my team…he might be my favorite guy I’ve watched the entire tournament. I’m sorry I’m clueless to all this-just completely uncharted waters for me but I’m hooked and am gonna want more when this is over in a few weeks.

@fiago7 The people in NY/NJ screwed up royally when they built that. Sofi in LA, mercedes dome in Atlanta are far superior venues.

I freaking love soccer during the World Cup, but the insane amount of flopping and whining is out of control. You can even see them look over at the ref hoping to trigger a yellow card. This is one of the major reasons soccer will never be popular in the USA.

@FAmmiranteTFJ This WC has been very interesting from the stand point that the traditional powers aren’t necessarily walking through this thing. Definitely could go to a number of surprise teams.

It's crazy how smart sports fans become dumb when watching the World Cup. They'll go from nuanced breakdowns of March Madness to "Team X is better than Team Y cuz they went further" in the World Cup.

@RickvonStauff Shut it, you have to have the visiting supporters walled off by police, there have been numerous racial incidents towards players…. Yet here you are being so sophisticated….. everyone sees through it.
