I can relate when it comes to the Indiana public school system. It’s a disgrace. I have contacted my 11 year old daughter’s school several times regarding her being bullied. They did something when I said I would escalate the issue to the school board, or pull her out of that school completely. Even then they didn’t do much more than talk to the kids parents. My daughter has come home in tears on several occasions because of something one of her bullies said to her. She and I talk every single day about things that happened at school and I write it all down and send it to the principal. It has gotten a little better in terms of one or two particular students, but when one of them shuts up, another one starts running her mouth. This new one has threatened to get physical, so I told my daughter never to throw the first punch, but if this other girl starts a fight, she has my permission to defend herself and finish it. Other than that, whatever they say to her, just walk away or say “I’m sorry you feel that way”. It’s hard to act like you don’t care what they say, especially at that age, but I am glad and blessed she and I have very open communication when it comes to what is going on at school. A lot of kids suffer in silence, and it’s heartbreaking.

Sammy Teusch of Greenfield, Indiana was bullied up until the night he took his own life according to his family. The parents say they contacted the school 20 times to urge them to do something about the bullying but they were ignored. Sammy was emotionally bullied but also physically bullied including an incident on a school bus where he was assaulted. "They were making fun of him for his glasses in the beginning, then on to make fun of his teeth. It went on for a long time," his father said. "I held him in my arms. I did the thing no father should ever have to do, and anytime I close my eyes, it's all I can see." Rest in peace, Sammy.
