@amygoodchild A result in Mathematics is considered important not just because somebody likes it, but because it leads to so many other (and new) places.
This qualifies!
Beware the Walmart bait-and-switch! My wife ordered
the deer pictured below. A small box eventually arrived containing a small deer 11" tall and parts to assemble the other two. Thanks to the long delivery lead time, no time to get something that was the proper size.
@ben_fry Thank you for your dedication and contributions over so many years. Even if the organization has not fulfilled your dream, YOU have been instrumental in the dreams of more people than you’ll ever know.
I have made the extremely difficult decision to resign from the Processing Foundation. I am absolutely heartbroken, and have not slept well for months.
@pragprog Begin by explaining the problem space that FORTRAN was intended to address. Then show a few examples that compare FORTRAN solutions with solutions of languages the participants may have used/seen before. Execute them to allow performance comparisons.
@NancyAFrench I did as well.
“Dark-feathered night
hovered silently, sadly,
above the valley of the shadow of death,
(as a reverse image
of the Spirit
fluttering over chaotic waters);
while creation held its breath,
except for the weeping wind.”
Questions for people who grew up in church:
Did you ever sing this hymn in church?
And if so, in what denomination?
(Bonus: did you know what 'ebon pinion' was?)
It begins:
"Night, with ebon pinion, brooded o’er the vale;
All around was silent, save the night wind’s wail."
@preslavrachev@fortelabs Just like programmers and programming languages: we humans seem to become emotionally attached to tools in which we have invested time and effort.
@fortelabs I think that the problem with all of the four you mentioned is that they tend to create cults. People would get really emotionally attached to one tool or the other, claiming it’s the One True Way.
I agree that a “boring” mainstream tool will reduce this tension a bit.
We really need a graph-based PKM app built by a serious company for mainstream users
• Roam is a religion
• Obsidian is a side hobby
• Logseq is an open-source project
• Tana is barely in alpha
If there was just one reliable app in this space I’d refer so much traffic to it
I'm interested in opinions and experience with legacy ANSI-style flowcharts (boxes for actions, diamonds for decisions, arrows for go-to-style flow, etc.). It really amounts to combos of use-or-not, like-or-not.
@6Observer@t0nyyates@vboykis Each of us is responsible not to do so.
Someone recently sent me an alarmist tidbit of a kind widely seen in emails, web pages, etc. It took me 30 seconds to find an article on snopes.com debunking it.
We should know better than to repeat what we haven’t verified.
