Just out in @ScienceAdvances! Does climate control mountain topography? (Yes!) What about tectonics? (Also yes!) Lithology? (Yep!) Great, but can we pull them all apart? (YES!) Our latest on this longstanding debate with BIG implications! [1/11] science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

New paper out in Geology! @geosociety "Controls on topography and erosion of the north-central Andes" We present a new cache of 10Be erosion rates, identify unambiguous climatic and lithologic controls on topography, and much more! Check it out: pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geology/ar…

@CinTyLeeEarth @ScienceAdvances …is something we would only under quasi-equilibrium. We also see clustering in ksnQ-E that wouldn’t happen if modern rainfall weighting was a poor representation. We briefly discuss some reasons for why this may not be the case in certain settings and what that might mean.

@CinTyLeeEarth @ScienceAdvances Great question! In this setting, we find a few lines of evidence all suggesting modern rainfall is representative. E.g., because we weight by modern rainfall, adjustment to a very different rainfall pattern would differently impact trunk/tributary ksnQ. That they are equal…[1/n]

Take homes: Topography is sensitive to climate and capturing its effect is CRITICAL to unlocking the immense archive of information encoded within topography. Because topography and rainfall data are globally available, these methods can be applied rapidly and widely. [10/11]
