@cameronmoll Do you think we’ll have a different sense of intrinsic value for person-made vs machine-made? Do time and skill still remain valuable to us, especially in creative skills?

I don't buy the idea that craft & taste will remain human-only endeavors. To my ears this sounds as ill-advised as claims that AI couldn't do production code. AI will get notably better at design judgment. "Artisan" will expand to include the ability to advise, not just produce.

@cameronmoll I’d add proactivity in responding early when issues that challenge culture arise. The erosion caused by leaving behaviours unchecked that are detrimental to the team can be so costly.

I know of no more effective way to build 'culture' in tech than empower people to produce rewarding outcomes in a sustainable way, with as few politics as possible, supported by leaders who value autonomy, accountability, fairness, and growth. Everything else seems secondary.

@cameronmoll I agree. I'd add that the ability to use both skillsets interchangeably, and to deliver a consistent message and tone across both is a superpower.

Hypothesis: Executives pleading for RTO weren't stellar at async communication to begin with. Covid amplified this, and when async became critical, they struggled to maintain context without regular meetings and "bump-ins" (which they initiated). While I've worked remote/distributed for more than half my career, I don't believe sweeping rules in either direction are beneficial to anyone long term. Just as it may be inequitable to demand all workers return to the office, it may be inequitable to demand all executives become experts at async comms. But the reality is async comms have become as valuable a skill post-Covid, from the most junior levels to the highest leadership levels, as extroverted in-person demeanor pre-Covid.

@JasonCParis @onenzofficial It's just one story, but I had service so good from @onenzofficial last week that we used it as an example in our All Hands meeting at work. Personalised, expert help that went above and beyond and made my life easier - thank you!

We’ve had a bit of press on our customer service of late which I’ve felt is unfair on the @onenzofficial team, however it’s hard to not come across as defensive when you try & get a fair go. (No pun intended) So we are now publishing our real time customer service stats for anyone to view. Some of the numbers: - 6,198 customers called us yesterday - average of 35 seconds before we answered - 25 percent less calls from customers in the past 12 months. - Fixed our customers issues first time 80% of the time in September (survey of 11,004 customers) We are not where we want to be on service yet, but we also have some of our best results & I’m proud of the team. We have more work to do - and we are on it. As always I’m also your personal account manager whenever you need help: Jason.paris@one.nz
One New Zealand@onenzofficial

Our customer service levels are the best they've been since 2021, but we'll keep working to better serve you. Don't take our word for it - see the stats yourself - now updated daily on our website. More info here: media.one.nz/customer-servi…

@cameronmoll We find the same is true of flexible working hours. The depth of talent and diversity of perspective out there that can’t / doesn’t want to work fixed hours in a fixed place is huge.

Remote work is diversity. Remote work is inclusion. Remote work is equity. Leaders, if you believe better results are achieved through diverse teams (which is unquestionably true) then geographic diversity & inclusive work environments are vital to DEI.

@FlyAirNZ quick question - know you're crazy busy! Last time I needed the callcentre I was offered a callback - worked brilliantly. Today, just loud hold music and "We're pretty busy...". Can I do anything differently to get the callback option back?

Nanogirl - STEM Activities for Kids
Nanogirl tests COVID-19 classroom ventilation theories: Does simply opening the windows work? What if it’s cold outside? Would air purifiers be a better solution? We took over a New Zealand school tp put these questions to the test Nanogirl-style! youtu.be/LS4x8WGM--0

@medickinson @nicgaston I think if I'd put more effort into getting up, and less into T-Rex roar sound effects, I might've made it further up.

Debate in the Nanogirl office today... With their very short and weak arms - if a T-rex fell over and landed on it's side or back, would it be able to get back up again?

@MatthewHootonNZ It'd help if the vaccine pass validation also provided a contact tracing datapoint - reduce the number of steps needed per transaction.

@winstonpeters Still...same circus, just without the side acts, right? They were elected with a clear majority for sure - just seems a bit rich for you to be standing in judgement. I guess relationships with exes can be tough for the best of us.

Aucklanders needing a scheduled time slot to leave the city for xmas is simply nuts. It makes you wonder which clown is running this circus.
