@Noahpinion My avatar is Axel Oxenstierna, a 17th Century Swedish statesman, who is now best known for writing to his son: "Do you not know, my son, with how little wisdom the world is governed?" It seemed appropriate for Twitter. :-)

@nationalpost If the underlying story is true, and it sounds true, then Simon Fraser University is not a real university and it should be shut down alongside the Human Rights Tribunal.

This week I visited another BC lumber mill SOLD OUT by Freeland when she BACKED DOWN to Trump and signed onto a trade deal that allowed unjust American softwood tariffs to stay and rise. Remember, Harper got the tariffs lifted. Liberals let the Americans slap them back on. Ignore the grandstanding: Freeland/Trudeau are weak and they will back down to Trump again.

@PhilWMagness If they apply for a stay to allow these tariffs to be collected pending the appeal, the court should refuse the stay on the basis of Trump's attempts to avoid honoring the condition of the first stay.

Telling an entire generation they're victims is the fastest way to rob them of their dignity. You can be a victim of something without making victimhood your identity. I despise victimhood with everything I've got, not because I don't recognize suffering, but because staying in that place makes you controllable.  And the people promoting it know that.

Imagine losing your legs or arms defeating Nazism and then coming home only to be shipped off to live on an island so you wouldn’t tarnish the image of Stalin’s flawless victory. Or returning home from a Nazi camp for POWs and being sent off to a Soviet camp as a ‘traitor’.

nationalism in the soviet union after 1945 must’ve been fucking insane. imagine defeating the nazis & then going back to free healthcare & endless praise.

“Mortgaging the Homestead,” 1890, by George Agnew Reid. Another great narrative painting about life in Canada in the nineteenth century. A perfect composition charged with pathos, with so many stories within the story. The forlorn grandparents must have been the homesteaders, and can’t believe that a life of hard work has come to this. The father sits humiliated. But the mother gazes intensely at the viewer with sad determination as she’s holding the next generation. The painting is based on a traumatic childhood experience of the artist, whose parents had to mortgage their homestead farm when he was a child. This painting made a stir during the 1891 federal election campaign, with the Liberals using it as propaganda to criticize the Tories’ National Policy. (Part of the National Gallery of Canada collection.) #CanadianArt

So much wrong with this ...first, wealthy people don't hold cash, they reinvest their money. Only financially illiterate people hoard unproductive assets. 2nd, it is extremely virtuous to pass on wealth to your kids vs wanting the state or inefficient/overpaid NGOs to have it

Years before anybody else, @NVanCaroline was talking about repealing an Act whose repeal won’t make a damned bit of difference to anything (b/c of s. 35, other court decisions, etc.). Her courage in pioneering futility and conservative virtue signalling is really astounding.
Caroline Elliott@NVanCaroline

I have been warning about DRIPA and the NDP’s land-back agenda for years, long before it became politically convenient. While others stayed silent, I spoke out about the risks to property rights, legal certainty, and BC’s future. As Premier, I will repeal DRIPA and restore stability to British Columbia.

@dwarkesh_sp And that natural selection is choosing from among gene variants already present in the population - changing the relative prevalence. Genes relating to disease resistance, the ability to plan food production a year in advance and other traits are probably affected.

Hunter-gatherers faced food instability on a short time scale: they would gorge themselves after a hunt, then might go days without any meat. So they have an evolutionary advantage to keeping a higher body fat percentage - it keeps them going after a hunt. Agricultural societies don't have this kind of day-to-day food insecurity. Farmers worry about food shortages on the scale of years, with disease and famine; marginally higher body fat wouldn't help with that. So when a population switches to agriculture, natural selection begins to operate in the opposite direction, reducing body fat.
