@waynedorio @DanMalloyCT @SteveStafstrom @MikeLawlor @xtina4justice @jkangbrown Wayne great perspective, thanks for sharing. One question: you mention that the DOC budget has only decreased $3M since 2008 — are those numbers adjusted for inflation?

Thanks to all who shared their expertise allowing me to explain CT's criminal justice gains. @DanMalloyCT, @SteveStafstrom, @MikeLawlor, Melvin Medina, @xtina4justice, and @jkangbrown. slate.com/news-and-polit…

@aviflombaum Oh yeah I browse JavaScript off for all by default. It’s such a pain in the ass, I love it.

I've started getting super strict with my browser privacy. At this point I'd rather a site break and I whitelist stuff than just let sites run amuck. Like I just noticed a broken stripe checkout on a site and no problem, whitelisted checkout.stripe.com.

@chr1sa Another good one. Homeland filled the void that 24 left.

I’ve long said that tech’s greatest film is The Social Network (2011), and that like Wall Street (1987), it popularized an industry/culture and led to a surge of young people moving West to build.
There was an equivalent cultural force for DC, but it happened with two shows and split down party lines: The West Wing for progressives (1999-2006) and 24 for conservatives (2001-2010).
Chances are if you met someone who moved to DC at the height of those shows, they were obsessed with one or both.

@aviflombaum You can do anything! But isn’t worth it imho unless you really _need_ to for some reason.
Even folks that send a lot of email (me in past lives), don’t typically go that route because the overhead isn’t worth it.

I know $12 USD is a lot of money for some people, so to celebrate 400 sales, I'm giving away 400 copies of How Integers and Floats Work (honour system: only if $12 is a lot for you!)

@aviflombaum I’ve reached a state of tortured acceptance by thinking about components as ‘mono’ components — they have all the js, css, and html _right_ there.
English

Look I'm all in, I'm building the app in React, I'm not turning around, there are parts I'm enjoying, but all in all, it's absolutely insanity to think that has improved the web developer experience at all for the majority of developers.
My biggest takeaway is that more JS is the answer to all of problems.
Any ecosystem where more is the solution isn't aligned with my values. I miss how much Rails encourages you to do less, to remove bloat, and gives you just the right amount of space to put everything.

@JackMcCloy Blah that sucks. Do you think this and these sorts of things are something you’d pay to not worry about?

(UPDATED) TONIGHT'S AURORA FORECAST:
Based on current data, we've moved our possible Northern Lights viewing farther south. A moderate, strong, or severe geomagnetic storm is possible.
Aurora viewing is likely in the United States tonight as Earth is impacted by a strong solar storm. The most favorable cloud conditions look to be over the Midwest, Plains and parts of the Great Lakes and less favorable conditions in the Northeast and Northwest.

@hspter This is it exactly! And it also solves the blank canvas problem by giving you something to start refining…
(I also think it’s quirkiness and difficulty with the truth is part of what endears us to it - it’s foibles maybe make it seem more relatable)
