@PracticalTheolo I pray the Holy Spirit provides council and discernment. God bless you.
English

@johnadel98 Ya, I don't think 'the Word' meant as a person happens in the NT or the OT. It's made up.
English

1 Clement doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
Polycarp's letter doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
Papias' fragments don't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
The Epistle of Barnabas doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
The Didache doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
2 Clement doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
The Old Roman creed doesn't identify Jesus as 'the word'.
🤔
English

@PracticalTheolo I meant capital W in English, not Greek. There is a discernment between the Word and the word in its respective way in Greek. My point was there is a difference between in its use as a title or as a teaching. The confusion comes from taking both the same way.
English

@johnadel98 Not sure what you're saying. There's no capitalization in the ancient Greek. I'm talking about phrases that use the definite article 'the' in Greek and apply it to 'word', so 'the word'.
English

@PracticalTheolo True, however if we refer to the original Greek text, there is a difference between using ‘the Word’ for identification and using ‘word’ for teaching. English has the same distinction through the capital W.
They are not the same, reaffirming that Jesus is ‘the Word’ i.e God.
English

@johnadel98 I agree - NT is what we should look at.
You're right that 'the word' is used often in the Fourth Gospel. It's used 31x in the main body, and refers to Jesus *zero* times there. Instead, again and again, it's distinguished from him, as something he hears, speaks, and acts on.
