...fundamentals (roster, matchmaking, TV, production) that recreate Bellator...a viable, and critical #2 promotion. It was never about competing with UFC, but supplementing it. The sport deserves it, the fans deserve it, the fighters deserve it.
Easy? No.
Doable? Absolutely.

This is becoming a big topic in my former world.
Bellator certainly has a history that PFL doesn't. But we peaked when we were able to make compelling fights and tell stories on a viable TV platform.
The potential rebrand to Bellator is a fun debate, but...

Maven thinks that WWE is in trouble: 1. They don't do enough house shows and because of it, the wrestling isn't as good - "you don't get better as a wrestler by not wrestling" 2. There's a lack of camaraderie because wrestlers aren't on the road together 3. Every match in WWE looks like a dance instead of a fight. 4. Wrestlers have forgotten how to call matches in the ring. 5. The product as a whole is too expensive 6. Too many ads - "It was painful to get through an episode of Raw"

The NBA presented three comprehensive anti-tanking concepts to its Board of Governors on Wednesday, with modifications expected to each before a formal vote in May, per ESPN sources.
1. 18 teams in draft lottery (seeds 7-15 in each conference) – flattened odds, with bottom 10 teams having an 8% chance, the remaining 20% odds distributed in decreasing order for 11 through 18, and and a lottery drawing for all 18 picks.
2) 22 teams in lottery using 2-year record (seeds 7-15, plus the four playoff first round exits in both conferences). Lottery teams would reach a minimum win total floor in each season, such as 25 wins. If a team falls short of the floor, it gets slotted to meet the floor. Top 4 drawn as part of lottery, as is currently.
3) 18 teams in a "5 by 5" lottery – bottom 5 teams have equal odds for the top pick, with lottery formed for picks 1-5. Bottom 5 teams have a floor at 10; those that fall out of top 5 get sorted in a separate drawing.

The next billion dollar IP is being made right now by some guy making AI "slop" in his spare bedroom.
South Park was a college film project, made from construction paper and an 8mm camera. Fox passed on it because one character was a talking piece of well, you know. George Clooney personally made hundreds of VHS copies and carried them around Hollywood. That "dumb college project" is worth $2.4 billion.
Channel 101, a bar screening anyone could enter, produced Rick and Morty, The Lonely Island, Tim & Eric, and the directors of Everything Everywhere All at Once. The film establishment dismissed every single one of them before they were famous.
The people dunking on AI filmmaking are the Fox exec who killed South Park over Mr. Hankey.
Now is the time for to begin investing in and building pipelines for indie filmmakers. Create scouting, film festivals, and entertainment brands that turns meme-slop creators into rockstars and who own their own IP, without need to sell it to studios.
If you really care about storytellers, and artists. This is where all your energy and capital should be positioned right now.

@Radrappy Every job has complaints. But also TV has been democratized to the point where you can find top-flight animation producers not network affiliated on Youtube making a living because they aren't dealing with ridiculous California taxes. THAT'S the real killer of the industry.

TV animation used to bring a lot of ad based revenue on linear cable, especially with kids. But after the switch to streaming TV animation has struggled to prove it can drive subscribers or generate ads dollars. Simply put - the medium lost all of its value over the past decade

@Radrappy Incorrect as you are only referring to American-born series. Netflix's biggest shows in the world right now is anime that routinely is in the first 3 or 4 top spots in most viewership. Hulu/Disney's biggest drivers here and internationally is the Animation Domination lineup.

@johnblabber36 It is not driving it is just doing better than kids programming. It's not like these adult animated shows are beating their live action counterparts unless were talking simpsons reruns. Big Mouth did well for netflix for a bit but plenty of their adult slate bombed.

@Radrappy I think you are conflating adult animations problems with kids animation. Kids animation doesn't make streamers money because it largely targets a demo that can't buy or subscribe to services. Meanwhile adult animation is the leading driver for Paramount plus, Netflix, and Hulu.

Feature animation on the other hand can still have an 100m boxoffice and then sell licensing rights to a streamer for another 10-20m. There is no such path for tv animation - these shows are essentially making 0 dollars but cost 15m a season. You can see why studios stopped.
