The graves of two British soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War were formally rededicated in France this week.
“We are honoured to be able to rededicate the graves of Captain Martin Warren and Lance Corporal Arthur Mantle. Thanks to extensive and meticulous research, it has been possible to confirm that two previously unnamed graves at Pargny British Cemetery and Joncourt East British Cemetery near Saint Quentin are the final resting places of these two men, who gave their lives in fierce fighting on the Western Front more than 100 years ago. It is important that, wherever possible, every soldier who died is commemorated by name, and today we reaffirm our commitment to care for their graves in perpetuity.” CWGC Director of Commemorations Richard Hills.

@swanranger @WW1IEPER1917 @historycalled The majority of them are today buried in @CWGC Vieille-Chapelle New Military Cemetery, Lacouture. They were concentrated there in 1919 following exhumation from Rouge Croix Cemetery. At least one is missing and remembered on the Le Touret Memorial.

@Ianlyall9 Sadly not for the 1st July, Ian but hopefully at some point before the Autumn. Leeds Bradford to Paris Beauvais Airport and a hire car from there. I don't do the very tiring drive south from South Yorkshire these days, especially with the air fare so cheap from LBA.

@johncopse A few months away yet, but are you out for the 1st this year, Neil?

#WorldBookDay It's difficult to choose my favourite book but this is my current read. One that I keep returning to every once in a while. You can't beat Lyn Macdonald for a #WW1 fix. This is one of her best.

@MCab78 @nikroberts2 @Jenny_1884 Councils use Section 58 of the Highways Act 1980 to repudiate. Burden of proof that their road was safe lies solely with them. I have a claim sitting with @RMBCPress. If you do the work you'll find enough evidence to successfully represent yourself in court, should it go that far

@nikroberts2 @Jenny_1884 Thought the rule is if theyve known about it for 24h theyre liable?
But if it hasnt been reported, they're not?

We should be able to claim any damage to our cars caused by potholes from either our local council or from government.
Cars are expensive enough to run without having to pay out for damage that could be averted if they just filled the damn potholes.
There is no excuse for them not to fill potholes when they appear to have plenty of taxpayers money to give away to other countries.

Do give Paul Nixon's excellent website a look. An invaluable source of information when researching soldiers from 1881 to 1918. Service numbers tell us so much when other records are unavailable.

@Brunte84 I hit a nasty one on my way home from work last weekend. It damaged one alloy and split the sidewall of the associated tyre. New alloy and tyre £455. Claim now sat with Rotherham Council's legal team. Expecting a section 58 rebuttal. If they do, county court is next step.
