The old Law Amendment only said “affirm, appoint, or employ.” Mohler’s new proposed amendment has wording so broad, you could conceivably charge a church with breaking “friendly cooperation” with the SBC just for having, say, a Beth Moore book on the tract table.

IMO, they are spiritualizing everything in order to convince their base it would be un-Christian to oppose their policies. That is quite literally taking the Lord’s name in vain, using Him as a manipulative marketing tool. It offends me. Truly, it should offend all Christians.

@garetrobinson I'm a former longtime member. It's a tragic situation. The SBC is more likely to disfellowship them for what happened on Mother's Day: they allowed a woman to preach. Not the first time a woman has preached there on Mother's Day.

The situation at Second Baptist Houston is ridiculous. It should never have gone to mediation, much less a trial. Ed Young Sr violated Baptist ecclesiological principles and standards with what he did. There is no middle ground here. He destroyed the principles that Baptists have used for generations in organizing and leading a congregationally governed church. Second Baptist is a church of members, not a singular family. That Southern Baptists won’t disfellowship them, but are ravenously going after women serving in other churches, is the height of hypocrisy. Second Baptist is not a “Baptist” church as it exists today.

@neeva_walters I'm not familiar with the campus, other than it's in a canyon and a suburban area. Is there something keeping TMU from building dorms or apartments on campus? I don't blame the neighborhood residents for not wanting a bunch of college students living on their streets.

So, when the neighbors petition the city to halt TMU expansion & then TMU threatens to sue the neighbors claiming religious persecution, it’s hard to see how this fits into their motto of “for Christ & Scripture.”
