@TheSkyStrikers @MemorabiliaMal After extensive research, I am pleased to confirm that Nessie made it back on the bill for the 1978 event, whilst Johnny's Rocco's were still going strong, albeit after a tweak to their name ...

English

@TheSkyStrikers @MemorabiliaMal Two years later, Nessie had been replaced by the Justin Funn Showgroup but at least Johnny's Rocco's were still going strong ...

From the vault
It's time for the Miss Carlisle United Dance.....
They've booked Nessie everyone.....

@TheSkyStrikers @MemorabiliaMal I'd like to think that the advertised disco would have featured this floor filler ... m.youtube.com/watch?v=OJJjP-…

@johnknape74 @MemorabiliaMal The history of musical tastes changing run through the Miss Carlisle dinner dance is amazing
English

@ThoNg676733 I still think this is her finest hour: m.youtube.com/watch?v=Kly9Lp…

@j_c_domingues Utterly fantastic. Thank you so much, yet again ...

@j_c_domingues A much loved disco classic but Summer Love will always be their masterpiece, in my humble opinion.
English

@j_c_domingues Love this so much. Great dance record and a highly talented vocalist.

@keithelliott94 @joncolman If anyone is familiar with the 1979 film The Warriors, it accurately foretells the experience of Carlisle fans trying to get from Boundary Park to the railway station that night.
English

@joncolman I remember the riot it was pretty bad , we missed our goal didn’t get in till it was underway and we’d scored, that was it no good news after that , but as riots go it was pretty full on 🤦♂️

🗞 Story Of The Blues: It's a long time since Carlisle United last played second tier football - coming up 40 years. This week's nostalgia episode looks at their last game at that level in the spring of 1986... ⤵️ #cufc (£)

@joncolman A similar story to 2003-2004; hopelessly adrift by Christmas, followed by a strong recovery that eventually proved to not be quite strong enough. Trying to sustain second tier status on crowds of around 3,000 was an impossible task.
English

@xacct01 Completely brilliant, and ground-breaking at the time. Thank you so much for posting this. She left us far too soon.
English

@james_cufc2000 I think this was the inspiration: m.youtube.com/watch?v=LIRFxS…

@joncolman @newsandstar A real chamber of horrors, Jon. The 6-1 home defeat by non-league Wigan Athletic in 1934-1935 was also fairly desperate.
English

🤦♂️ Cheltenham, Gravesend, Crook, Macclesfield, Ilkeston...Chatham. Where does the Blues' FA Trophy humbling rank in their cup-defeat hall of shame? #cufc @newsandstar (£)

@AndyThomas1881 @worflags @NUSCuk @NUFC @BillRoddham @WASNAPPER @NDS1966 As a Carlisle United supporter, please could I put in a word for Les O'Neill, who started out with Newcastle United and remained a lifelong supporter. He was made captain for the day when we played Newcastle back in 1974. He passed away recently and is considered a legend for us.

🇦🇺 From the archive: In May 1993, just weeks before his iconic "Ball of the Century", a young Shane Warne arrived at Taunton to represent the touring Australians against Somerset.
Playing in a tour match, Warne displayed the mesmerising drift and sharp turn that would soon redefine leg-spin bowling globally.

@Fan89Footy A result which, combined with Carlisle's 3-0 win in the reverse fixture over Easter, denied Everton the league title. Sadly, neither outcome helped Carlisle's relegation battle. A surprise defeat, too, that day for the eventual champions.
English

@joncolman @newsandstar Fascinating story. Jimmy played two games against New England Tea Men in 1978 in which he faced former Carlisle United full back Peter Carr. While with Tulsa Roughnecks in 1980, he came up against another former Carlisle United full back, John Gorman, then with Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Fifty years ago this weekend, an 18-year-old from Harraby played for Manchester United. It was a dream come true - but there's much more to the story. Half a century on, Jimmy Kelly talks exclusively to the @newsandstar ⤵️ #mufc (£)
