@Kennedy_dabrow @cultofthatcer It was a good thriller (albeit, with a couple of credibility problems). I think it missed an opportunity to pursue the problems with a companion. Yeah, Josh is bad because he commits murder. But what if he remained an inoffensive loser? Would his rent-a-girl still be wrong?

@BotmanTheo74630 @Strittposter The kid has months of notice what's coming. Maybe that kid should consider signing up for some general courses at Local City U instead of trying to guilt a year-round summer vacation out of his parents. He's going to be 18, and his choices are his, but they have consequences.

@johnlawrence51 @Strittposter He's kicking him out the second he turns 18... There's a big difference between your child moving out and kicking them out and this is definitely kicking them out going by the fact the dad wants to do it as soon as possible.

Boomers were the first generation to normalize this. This specific culture of abandoning your kids at 18 has been engrained into our society to make everyone easier to control financially. More demand for housing, less shared income. Splitting up the family, dismantling generational and familial wealth Not saying your kid shouldn’t fly the coop at some point, they are free to leave when they are ready. But kicking them out right when they’re out of high school will never not be insane to me
Real Post Folder@RealPostFolder

'Spreading his wings' philosophy is bullshit. This is something lazy parents do to get rid of their kids. Parents should get that children are a lifelong commitment and investment, not something to be disregarded after 18 years. When I was a teenager, I had a friend whose parents did this to him after college freshman year. Communication and all financial aid were cut off, saying that "it was for his own good." 2 years later, the most hardworking and brilliant person I knew, is working as a delivery guy just to make ends meet. He lived in a crappy basement in an old house belonging to a hag in the worst part of the town. This was a guy who topped in his class and voted most likely to become successful. If you want your son to have a good life, help him

@Strittposter Also, the father is 39. He was born in 1986-87. Not a boomer. Hell, not even an Xer. he's a Millennial.

@Strittposter The kid in this story isn't really being kicked out for turning 18. He's being told he needs to go to school or move out. The kid says he wants to "hold off on College [sic]"... It sounds like the kid wants an extended summer break with, maybe, a part time job.

@jeremyct It sucks, but if it's untenable, then I would advise looking at selling and moving to a more affordable situation. It would be nice to spend his remaining years in his house, but if the aggravation and worry is too much, it's best to cut losses now.

my dad called me today stressed about property taxes. he’s 76, retired, and living on social security. been in the same house since the early 90s. mortgage paid off years ago. now his property taxes jumped from around $6,500 to over $8k. imagine spending your whole life paying off a home… and still being one tax bill away from losing it. that doesn’t sit right with me.

@RealEmirHan I don't see how that scene "sexually awakened" anyone normal. It was the tragic turn in the story.

@PalmyrPar As a special "Director's Cut", I don't care. I just don't like that we cannot get access to the original films as they were. They're not War & Peace, but even pop icons should be given some respect.

I'd really like to hear the arguments for both. Your hypothetical: A married father is in a position to save EITHER the wife and mother OR the child/children. Which should it be, and why?

I'm not on the ground there. Are you Americans seeing any large-scale preparations for your country's 250th bday?
O tempora o mores@someBerserker

@FistedFoucault I'm not seeing any indication that the American people are celebrating, nor getting ready to celebrate, the 250th (living in a Blue State). Major contrast with what I've heard from boomers about their experience of the 200th.

@QueenAnticommie First, why are the customers paying the $2.13? Isn't that employer's responsiblity? Second, 15% is the accepted tip for average table service. 20% is for very good service. This is especially so for very large tabs. I'll let it slide up to 20% at Ihop, not the steakhouse.

@BBDaybreakEU ...Within a 1/4-mile stretch in SW Houston you can get all sorts of Asian food, and I do not mean the Americanized version of these foods. The same goes for African, Latin American, European, and Middle Eastern cuisine.

@BBDaybreakEU Austin does have "pretty good" food, but Houston is, low key, way better when it comes to culinary selection. I know the "But what about the restaurants..." argument is tiresome vis-a-vis immigration, but it's not entirely wrong, either... (1/2)

@2And2MakeFive @TheCinesthetic I'm no fan of Hippies, but the Manson group was really not part of their movement. The extremely lunatic racism alone put them in another orbit.

@TheCinesthetic This movie did a great job of reminding us that hippies were horrible people. The boomers (especially the Woodstock people) did their best to lionize these losers, but they were totally leaches and losers… and worse.

@hollowearthterf It's annoying, but it's cathartic for them, so all I ask is that I can change clothes, get a drink, and then she can cut loose. It's usually 15-20 minutes, and that's it. Big whoop.

One thing I agree with husbands on is I don’t want to hear about work drama, I don’t know these people and none of these stories are interesting out of context, talk to me when there’s an office affair or something, but someone being bitchy about a deadline isn’t interesting

@FistedFoucault A few small items, like posters and ads for upcoming events, but they're nothing like what I remember for the Bicentennial in 1976, when my town renamed a large boulevard "Bicentennial Blvd."

@Arkypatriot I grew up here. It's just a thing you love because you grew up with it. It's generally better than most fast food alternatives, but not religiously so. It has also taken a quality hit since the original owners were bought out.

I finally tried Whataburger in Texas after hearing people talk about it like it was a religious experience. And I’m just gonna say it… I still don’t see what the big deal is. It was fine. Not bad. Not life-changing. Nobody’s ancestors whispered “welcome home” when I took a bite. So all of you who love it please explain yourselves.
