The people’s who’s resumes actually get read are people who have already made contact with the company in advance. And this IS an actionable step. Rather than mass-spamming resumes, consider connecting with the people who will actually receive them! Cold-email! Cold-message on LinkedIN! Meetings, coffee-chats, or even simply online exchanges are the hidden step that gets applicants hired.

1) Volume This is the #1 reason you’ll get under 20% open rates with email. Not the amount of volume you send out, but the amount of volume your audience receives, and the platform they receive it on. If they get dozens or hundreds of messages on a platform, switch to another one less saturated. For example, I get hundreds of cold emails a day and I read less than 5%. Message me on Instagram though, and there’s a good chance I’ll respond.
