@MxVivianWulf @jimthegiant I was very critical of Michael Walker's weird take on the trans women in sports/bathrooms thing, but I don't think this claim holds water. Novara's more general challenge to left-identity politics has long been well established, and it's the main subject of Ash's book.

@jimthegiant It's not just a title. It's an ongoing narrative that seeks to emulate right wing complaints about "wokism" and seems to be a reactionary turn that began when Walker was called out for transphobia. Idgaf about titles and it's condescending to assume my critique is so shallow.

Novara are hands down putting put the highest quality leftist media in the game, and proudly built in Britain. I think you can accept a title you may not love when considering the impact they have in building out a broad socialist media space
Vivian@MxVivianWulf

Every few months with this smug anti-woke nonsense... ever since Michael Walker came out as transphobic and they got backlash. It's so fking insufferable. Where is my left media that doesn't constantly spout right wing talking points pls?

Dear Lucy Powell, I have enjoyed our exchange of letters about which of our parties is best placed to stop Reform. Hannah Spencer MP and I trust that you agree that this question has now been resolved once and for all. Thanks, Zack Polanski
Lucy Powell MP@LucyMPowell

This by-election is bigger than day to day politics. It’s about stopping Reform’s toxic politics coming to my city. The Greens misleading claims, dodgy bar charts & briefings risk letting them in the back door. Only voting Labour can defeat Reform. My letter to @ZackPolanski 👇🏻

Zack Polanski's full interview on BBC News The morning Hannah Spencer won the Gorton and Denton by-election At the end Charlie Stayt asks, "Has Hannah Spencer had a chance to celebrate?" Zack Polanski, "We've just literally come from a party, I think she's still partying there now. I got dragged here. I'm very happy to be here. Dancing sounded a little bit more fun" *Naga Munchetty takes in a big breath*

Claim in the guardian that during the Gorton and Denton campaign Labour have "knocked on over 60000 doors". The electorate in the constituency was just over 74000 in 2023. Do most households only contain one adult? Or are they knocking on the same doors repeatedly?

@speakoutsister @Denicio These figures aren't that surprising. Only half of people opening their doors is very standard, and it stands to reason that they'd go back and try again for people who didn't answer the first time around.

@Denicio Note they only spoke to 30000 people. Which suggests half didn't answer.

With a two-hour delay, the BBC could’ve removed the N-word slur from its BAFTA coverage, and chose not to. Meanwhile, it cut Akinola Davies Jr saying “Free Palestine”. A clear editorial decision driven by fear of pro-Israel lobby groups. Shame on them.

@AyoCaesar @Seanchuckle Disagree - this is the most nuanced take I've seen today in this entire shitstorm. Ideally, no, it wouldn't be worth saying. However, since you seem to be basically the only one saying it, I guess someone had to.

@Seanchuckle Yeah point taken, and I can't speak for the individuals. I suppose what I'm saying is a very banal, 'everyone deserves to be treated with empathy, it's a shit situation, sometimes things which are awful for everyone unfortunately happen'. Probably not worth tweeting it!

What happened last night at the BAFTAs is a genuine example of competing rights – on the one hand, including someone with a disability who has every right to attend, and on the other, protecting people from being assailed by racial slurs. I honestly don't know how anyone's meant to square that.

As Jews, we strongly object to the use of synagogues to enable the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes. That events supporting the theft of Palestinian land, in full violation of international law, are occurring at all is unconscionable. That they are occurring in our sacred spaces is a moral failure of epic proportions.

@VirtualElena I saw the ending and it immediately reminded me of the end of Barney's arc in How I Met Your Mother: accidentally has kid, finally changes his ways. There is literally the same scene of NPH staring at the kid weeping, albeit with dialogue.

Notes on MARTY SUPREME: - There are only two important scenes in the film: the first scene, when Marty impregnates his girlfriend in the back of the shoe shop where he reluctantly works, and the final scene, where he meets his child for the first time. The entire prolonged midsection of the film: the ping pong games, the elaborate heists, the swindling of Abel Ferrara, the crushed dog in the bathtub, immolated gas station, hustling of the kids in the bowling alley (plus Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin O’Leary), shootouts, even Marty’s triumph against Endo, ONLY exist so their importance/significance can be negated by the ending shot of the film, when Marty looks into the eyes of his kid and tears up and clearly realizes “this is all that really matters”. - I’m not sure if it was intended this way, but for that reason the movie succeeds as a work of pronatalism (and the 1952 postwar era does coincide with the baby boom). - But it’s funny that, for a film whose marketing celebrated audacity, big swings, unapologetic attention-seeking (Chalamet “SCHWAP”ing on Zoom, the orange blimps, the line for jackets in Soho, the flanks of orange ball-headed guards, Timmy shivering atop the Sphere) the message of the film seemed to be the exact opposite of what all that promotion espoused: actually, none of your dreams matter, and everything will recede and be reframed when your meet your progeny for the first time and your real purpose becomes clear. - In other words, the point of all that marketing was to get you to see the movie. But the point of the movie was to tell you that all of that marketing was pointless (or at least, the aspects of the film that the marketing refers to are pointless). Marty never plays a game with the orange balls, in fact he dumps them all outside the apartment window of a fleeting business partner during one of his many adult tantrums throughout the film) - I’m not sure if that’s genius or trolling. - Other sports/athleticism/“big dreams” movies (e.g. Rocky, The Wrestler, even I Tonya and Dodgeball and Black Swan for that matter) actually use each sequence of the game/match/performance to advance the plot/frame the character’s state. They’re all shot differently: some in slow motion, some with close-ups and focus on technique, others are montage sequences. But in Marty Supreme, all of the ping pong games were shot in pretty much the same way. Again a kind of “none of this really matters in the end” statement? - tl;dr: Marty Supreme is a 2h29m movie where only the first and last five minutes matter, but those minutes only matter *because* the rest of the film underscores how nothing else matters except for those moments. - So I guess it works as a movie

This is from a Guardian article talking about Trump's mental capacity. Apparently he summoned a bunch of top military officials, gave a speech about his various achievements, and then concluded it with this. Idk if it says anything about his mental acuity, but God it's funny.

Just been announced that my train is delayed by 74 minutes. The collective groan by my fellow passengers could have set sail a thousand ships. Someone made a gutteral noise akin to a battle-cry. One man literally stamped his foot on the platform. I love this country, sometimes.
