Taken together, we propose a new model of descending control: Networks of DNs are recruited to transform command-like signals into population-based behavioral control. DN recruitment may be a mechanism to construct flexible behaviors by combining multiple motor subroutines. (9/n)

This mainly serves as a proof of concept. In the long-term (pun intended), this method might allow to track neuronal activity across the life span of a fly, for example in models of neurodegenerative diseases.

I had a lot of fun contributing to the neural data analysis of this project. When @LauraHrmns fed the flies with a high dose of caffeine, we observed massive waves of neural activity. So dose your daily coffees wisely ☕️😉
