His defining act of defiance came in Jamaica in 1973–74: an unbeaten 262 carved out over 570 minutes and 563 balls, a lone stand of resistance that salvaged the Test. No other batter crossed 41, in fact, even that came via extras, underlining just how solitary his effort was. Yet, even the most resolute careers carry imperfections. For all his dominance, Australia remained a persistent thorn, accounting for seven ducks in just 21 innings against them. Beyond Tests, Amiss etched his name into history by scoring the first-ever century in One-Day Internationals, and in 1986, he reached the landmark of 100 first-class centuries, a testament to both his longevity and unwavering discipline.
