What happened on October 7 was a retaliation, not an unprovoked attack. 1948 - Israel is created on Palestinian land. When Palestinians fought back, Israel killed and displaced 750,000 native Arabs. 1967 - After 20 years of indiscriminately killing Palestinians, Israel creates new laws to control water and resources for Palestinians; then drew new lines to expand Israeli territory, 1987-1993 - First Intifada, an uprising against the illegal occupation. The Israeli prime minister, Yithak Rabin, is killed by Israel for attempting a peace treaty with Palestinians. 2005 - Israel “leaves Gaza” after bombing its only airport and building a 20-foot concrete wall all around it, ensuring severely limited freedom, food, water, employment, and life. 2023 - Hamas retaliates against Israel, and Israel responds by bombing all of Gaza and killing 20,000+ civilians (and counting). You don’t have a right to defend yourself when you’re the aggressor.

My mom loved Christmas more than any other time of the year. So it was actually somewhat poetic that she passed away last night, Christmas night, to join my dad, who died four years ago this week. She lived a joyous 92 years and was loved by so, so many. I don’t think there was ever a person who met Gloria Jones that did not fall in love with her. She was a caring and loving mother, devoted to her family, and passionate about Alabama football. We were blessed to have had her for as long as we did. Rest in peace Mom. We love you dearly and will miss you greatly.
