@paulmichaeldev @openshipio Best of luck to anyone trying this for recipients on Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail - I get enough delivery issues to these using Mandrill (MailChimp) without taking on this level of pain for myself

OpenShip looks promising, but I think they got off on the wrong foot with self-hosted email. Yes, the software might make this "easy". It isn't. It's hard to convey this in a short form post people will read, which is why @openshipio has spent the last 3 days "defending" their post. Would I use this to self-host email? No, not unless I'm running internal notifications. Nor would I use anything else - I don't have the time it takes to keep a self-hosted email server running. IP reputation is one thing, DNS records are another. Both are valid concerns - and yes, before I get accused of knowing nothing, I have run a self-hosted email server. 4 times. Mail, now, is a lot harder than it used to be. It's a shame OpenShip didn't lean in with something less controversial, but I'm going to give this a go soon anyway. Nice to see some new tools in this space.
OpenShip@openshipio

You don't even want to know what sending 80,000 emails would cost you in 1 week. Postmark: $100+ SendGrid: $90+ Resend: $80+ Mailgun: $80+ OpenShip: $0. Deploy it on your 5$ VPS. Unlimited domains. Unlimited inboxes. No per-email bill. No vendor lock-in. And yes - it works with one-click setup. No deep infrastructure work. Just add a few DNS records, and you're ready to go.

@paulmichaeldev @mhenrixon I'm about to move a load of stuff from Digital Ocean to Hetzner. One of the big attractions is the 1st class support for using Terraform to build and manage my infrastructure from code. If there are cheaper and better alternatives I'd love to know about them 🙏

@mhenrixon You say that, but their competitors have been much more expensive for a long time and they’re just fine.

Hetzner is pricing themselves out of business. Wanted to play around with pgdog for myself for testing some pgbus stuff. The database server I have and pay ~ €60 for is now almost 140 EUR per month. I would have gladly paid upwards 200 monthly for 2 replicas but definitely not going to pay 400! Guess I am moving my experiments to Planetscale!

@Mindgoop I'd like to express a positive opinion that disabled people should absolutely have benefits and be treated like first class citizens. I'm lucky enough to not have a physical disability but that could easily change like it did for many others❤️

Instead of having a negative opinion of whether disabled people should have benefits, use mobility aids etc why not just mind your own business?

@grahamh941 @King_Rat_II @campbellclaret When you put it like that it seems obvious really. So the new strategy is to lead reform to victory then immediately resign as leader and plant a knuckle dragging skinhead to take over as PM and deal with all those troublesome non-white people they like to blame for everything 🤣

🐘 What if PHP had first-class support for HTML markup in it, just like JSX? I've written it up as an RFC (with working implementation) and am excited to see where the discussion leads! wiki.php.net/rfc/native_mar…

@grahamh941 @King_Rat_II @campbellclaret Yes, I saw a post calling it a bin-bin situation. Either he wins against a bin or loses to one 🤣 If he wins, he will remain under intense scrutiny over the £5million; if he loses then his political career is shattered. It couldn't happen to a nicer bloke 😂

@NatWest_Help your online banking sign-up is utterly bonkers! Jumbled digits from a PIN and random letters from a password. Meanwhile the android app quits the moment I switch to my password manager to look up the details. Frustratingly hostile and very inaccessible process 😔

@anon_opin You joke but we've all had to stop at a red pelican crossing with no pedestrians and there's research which shows that if the delay is too long then there's a greater chance of people giving up and crossing, and/or a natural gap in the traffic. Shorter delay would help IMO.

When the button is pressed at a pedestrian crossing the traffic light should immediately turn red in all circumstances. Would make walking/running much more pleasant. Drivers can wait.

@MichelleS070 @JonathanPieNews So with the exception of Count Binface and Zippy, all the rest of these are Muppets 😂 But seriously though, have a quiet word in Zippy's ear and tell him to stand down this time. We love him but he'll split the vote and risks robbing Binface of victory ✌️😂

@_Jamie_Hunt @PeterOrton66 @JonathanPieNews Until such a time as we bin (no pun intended) first-past-the-post and switch to STV or a similar proportional system, most of us will (sadly) be stuck voting against what we don't want rather than for what we do 😔

@paulmichaeldev I've only ever used a Nikon once, which I borrowed from a friend when considering a DSLR, but whatever model it was, I found it to be very unintuitive finished l compared to the Pentax film cameras I used. I suspect they are all at feature parity these days anyway 😂

During Windows 3.1's installation setup, Microsoft embedded self-modifying XOR-encrypted code that secretly checked whether the machine was running DR-DOS instead of MS-DOS. If it detected a competitor's OS, it deliberately triggered a fake error screen to scare users away. The engineer who wrote it embedded his own initials in the encrypted signature. It was discovered years later during antitrust litigation. Microsoft paid $280M to settle.

I know n8n isn't "sexy" anymore but I've really started putting it to work, monitoring servers via SSH (and taking actions based on outputs). My latest automation checks my emails every minute and performs cleanup/filing actions. No AI tokens used constantly.
