You know what the biggest problem with pushing all-things-AI is? Wrong direction. I want AI to do my laundry and dishes so that I can do art and writing, not for AI to do my art and writing so that I can do my laundry and dishes.

I’ve been a missionary to philly for over 18 yrs on an apostolic journey. Ministering in large transient cities where it is 95%+ unchurched is a monster. Not only unchurched but anti church. Being here we have had to be extremely missiologically flexible. Because of transience, we have been thru the poor coming and going, middle/upper class coming and going, college students transitioning, young professionals transitioning, church spits, disgruntled folks, apostasy and much more. Over the years we have been thru about 4K people. Most transitioned on good terms. Our church demographic has changed at least 5-10 x’s. We went from being and artistic church to a multiethnic church to a college church to young professionals (all this time 90% singles). At some point prior to the pandemic we became a church for the dechurched (Formerly churched Christian’s and non-Christian’s). Then we lost 75% of our church during the pandemic and then Regrew with more folks. Now our church is 75% new people and we are 57% families and mostly a black church now and is middle upper class. Still a ton of dechurched now rechurched people that say @epiphfellowship is their last stop. Our neighborhood changes every 6-24 months. One day I’ll tell this story in more detail. But why am I writing this? In order to survive and possibly even thrive, we have had to remain missionaries to our city. Churches around us are dying fast and it grieves me that there is a diminishing gospel witness in our cities. The Church of Jesus Christ needs stable people to commit to more than just being fed, consumerism, and a journey of personal purpose. We need solid people in these urban environments who are committed to being healthy communities of faith to glorify God in these unchurched cities. Because of all of the above, I’ve emotionally packed my bags many a time. But the Ruler of Lights told me “if you leave who will stay for us”…me 😭. I am more than convinced of my call here in this season. I’ll preach, teach, lead, write, do outreach, train, send, facilitate, and whatever it takes. Tim Keller will be missed immensely. He loved Jesus to the end, he suffered well, he preached well, he loved his enemies well and showed many of us how to proclaim the conscious majesty of Jesus, often to a world that seemed not to care. Praying for Kathy and the family.

Health Update: Today, Dad is being discharged from the hospital to receive hospice care at home. Over the past few days, he has asked us to pray with him often. He expressed many times through prayer his desire to go home to be with Jesus. His family is very sad because we... 1/3
