@give_me_caffine We should have a referendum on separation immediately, Wales would overwhelmingly reject separation & @RhunapIorwerth & @Plaid_Cymru could then get on with making Wales a better place for all. Instead of concentrating on independence by stealth !

Andy Burnham was caught having a full-blown meltdown while campaigning in Makerfield ahead of the by-election. He only calmed down when Gemma Collins arrived, having apparently been summoned to save the campaign, but sadly, tragedy soon ensued. {satire}

Update on the Senedd laptops. The reason why all 96 Senedd Members get their second £2,000 laptop is because we aren't trusted to remember to bring our first £2,000 laptop into the chamber with us for plenary. As far as I'm aware, that's it. That's all the second laptop is there for. When I was in the private sector, if you couldn't be trusted to bring your work laptop into key meetings, you'd be fired.

The more I think about it, the clearer it seems to me that separation is EXACTLY what Welsh Labour needs. It would force the first-principles, start-again rebuild of a Welsh, progressive, lean and scrappy political party designed without nostalgia to meet the needs of 2030s Wales. Who wouldn’t want that? Let’s break down the arguments: 1 MONEY. This is the usual argument against. A strangely defeatist and conservative view. If the party can’t raise enough money to function, say on a par with Plaid, then I think it’s time to give up and find a new vocation! Welsh Labour would also be 10x better run if forced to work like a scrappy start-up. (Also find the argument so symptomatic of 27 years where people have assumed that only route to better outcomes is more £££) 2 POLITICS. This has often been the real reason for opposing it: a fear that a Welsh Party would be more left wing or Old Labour. Well I certainly don’t want that. But if people feel that is an argument that can’t be made and won, again it doesn’t say much about their confidence in their own abilities, or those of the members they would attract. 3 POSITIONING. When a major criticism is that WL isn’t putting country > party, breaking from London would be a pretty useful symbol. Not enough, of course - should also consider new name etc. What am I missing here?

The idea of Welsh Labour breaking free from UK Labour and establishing its own party is unrealistic because it would be totally unaffordable, according to Ken Skates, the party’s interim leader in Wales ✍️@ShiptonMartin nation.cymru/news/welsh-lab…

I submitted a petition to the Senedd asking people to support my call for a register of lobbyists. I'm still waiting for it to be approved. But this morning I received this bullshit. My colour, religion, and sexual orientation, are of no fucking relevance to the petition.

Trump & Vance need to stop meddling in British politics and fix their own country. Here’s a message back from the UK: we don’t want your division, conspiracy politics or MAGA culture wars. And we don’t want unarmed civilians shot in our streets. Britain is better than that.

Kept speaking to Plaid friends ahead of the election. Clear they were going to win and I was worried they were not ready to hit ground running. Was told “don’t worry, big prep work has been done on this by big brains.” This doesn’t increase my confidence…

NEW: Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s office says it is seeking clarification from Downing Street on UK sanction decision @lukeharding1968 reports. Ukraine’s president hasn't yet commented on decision to issue new licence for imports of diesel and jet fuel made from sanctioned Russian oil. UK has also permitted maritime transport of Russian LNG. Zelenskyy has previously urged Western partners to maintain tough sanctions regime against Russian oil exports, pointing out that Moscow uses cash from hydrocarbon sales to fund its war against Ukraine. “There is currently very active communication between our diplomats and the Office [of the President] and the British side to clarify the details,” an aide said.
