We went to a dinner as a group and had a $500 bill. We tipped $40. We were happy we can be able to give our server something, but her reaction was the opposite. She told us she assumed we're going to give her at least $120. When we asked for the manager, she said she was just joking, but she wasn't smiling at all. Idk, but is $40 tip enough for $500 bill? Yes that is how all insurance works. But you said that was "free" It isn't free. The hospital and the doctors all get paid. That money comes from somewhere. It comes from your absurdly high taxes. You pay for the "free" insurance. Here in the US we also pay for the insurance but we pay the insurance company directly instead of paying through our taxes. Ultimately the end user pays for it in both countries. Your way adds a layer of government between you and the actual healthcare though.

So in the UK, We buy a house, lets say £200,000, we get a mortgage for it, lets say for 25 years, you then get a mortgage deal, doesnt matter if the house value goes up, you just have to pay back what u borrowed plus interest

@MatrixMysteries It's a no win situation. If they don't raise your rate to cover the the "value" you end up like some folks in California who can't rebuild because the insured value is less than the new cost to rebuild. We have to get prices down for taxes and insurance across the board.
