@nathanielpopper @waze @mrichtel I think it’s partly a legacy of how dependent early Waze was on live, user-submitted data compared to cell signals (and still is somewhat), along with it coming from an era where gamification was all the rage. But it’s definitely crazy and in LA you have to beware the “Waze left”

Who at @waze decided it was a good idea to add in gamified elements and, even worse, ads that encourage you to interact while driving? Isn't it clear that interacting with phones while driving is dangerous? paging @mrichtel

Using @waze on the last few car trips has shaved off 15 or 30 minutes each time, but I keep being struck by how everything about the app other than the directions sort of sucks -- the inscrutable interface, but also the constant distracting and dangerous pop-ups.
