I've signed this statement calling for a reset in Labour to protect our values and future. We must restore democracy & move away from the current top-down approach. The NEC elections provide the perfect opportunity to do just that. Read our statement: resetlabour.co.uk

Nottinghamshire Police tried to stop us reporting matters of public interest and when it didn't go the way they wanted it to, they reported us to our regulator. Thankfully, IPSO saw sense and threw their complaint out. For the Chief Constable to say now that this was a mistake is quite frankly pathetic. Instead of trying to protect their reputation, the force and Chief Constable should have been communicating properly with the people who really matter here - the families of the victims and the survivors of those horrific attacks. nottinghampost.com/news/nottingha…

VOICE OF THE JEWISH NEWS: In defence of praying during Iftar in Trafalgar Square The question here is not one of whether such prayer is an attempt to “dominate”. It is about whether one has the right to publicly express their religious identity in this country jewishnews.co.uk/voice-of-the-j…

The inquiry doesn't seem to be looking at what was realistically possible when an unknown, highly contagious, killer virus appeared. It just complains that things were horrible, which obviously they were

Don't understand the Covid inquiry. It criticises the message "Stay home, Protect the NHS", because people with non-Covid conditions stayed away. It also warns the NHS “teetered on the brink of total collapse” and "only just" coped Surely, in that case, the message was right?

If SNL UK is anything like the US original, it will not all be funny. Best case scenario is that they take big swings and some of them miss. My biggest hope is that they get to try out something really weird.

Exc - Ministers believe Keir Starmer is not prepared to give govt time in the next session to save the assisted dying bill. I’ve talked to some of the most senior ministers who are proponents of the bill, none believe the PM has the capacity or political capital to bring it back

After several months so far of being onthe campaign trail for the local elections I’m struck by how very different the picture is in reality to social media . To look at social media you would think Reform were wiping the floor with everyone, the reality is a much more open race

I know that's a gloomy thought, but unfortunately that doesn't mean it's wrong (obviously I'll be delighted if I am proved wrong though)

It's great Government recognises the problem and is acting. The problem with giving local news orgs "grants to support ...transition to digital business models" is that digital business models for high quality local news simply may not be sustainable, through no fault of anyone
Lisa Nandy MP@lisanandy

Local media has always been a ladder of opportunity to help new voices break into journalism. This is not a nice to have. It is essential to a cohesive country. Our debate is too narrow and too small. We are changing that. The future of news is local. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…

Former Labour deputy leader (and maybe, one day, leadership candidate) @AngelaRayner condemns immigration reforms proposed by @ShabanaMahmood and backed by @Keir_Starmer. The changes she highlights are opposed by many Labour MPs, who I guess will take heart from her comments
Sienna Rodgers@siennamarla

Her comments were interestingly immigration-focused. And punches the bruise for govt that is the retroactive aspect of its plans for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Here’s that section of Rayner’s speech: “But enforcing a fair deal is not the same as ripping up a deal halfway through. Many people came here to Britain - on the understanding that if they worked in the sectors where we needed them, obeyed the law and paid their taxes, they could stay. If we suddenly change that, it pulls the rug from under those who have planned their lives and commitments and are contributing to our economy and to our society. That would be not just bad policy but a breach of trust. The people already in the system - who made a huge investment - now fear for their future - they do not have stability and do not know what will happen. We cannot talk about earning a settlement if we keep moving the goalposts. Because moving the goalposts undermines our sense of fair play. It’s un-British. Let us be a country that has sustainable economic migration rules, but one that upholds the British values we want all who live here to respect. Not special treatment. But the stability and a fair pathway forward after the sacrifices many have made to build a lawful life in the UK. I believe in a country where we keep our word and live up to our values.”
