During our #IDEI2025 event,Angela Nakafeero, Commissiomer for Gender & Women Affairs -Uganda, noted the rising cases of violence against female journalists especially in the global south & called upon their protection in all spaces- public and private. #FemaleJournalistsSafety

Marking #IDEI2025 as a side event to our training workshop on Monitoring and Reporting Violations Against Female Journalists in Africa, we were honored to have Ms. Angela Nakafeero, Commissioner for Gender & Women Affairs – Uganda, grace the occasion.

Misako Ito, @UNESCO Communication and Information Advisor for Africa, noting the consistent instances of violations against journalists across the globe, commended such initiatives like our observatory, that aims to ensure safety and security of female journalists. #PressFreedom

Dr. Olusola Odumosu presented a paper titled 'From Report To response: How Cases of Attacks Against female journalists Are Handled'. This paper details various contexts and responsiveness of the law enforcement in handling cases of violence against female journalists in Africa.

Law enforcement representatives from Uganda, Nigeria, Cameroon and Kenya during the meeting agreed that, democracy only exists when journalists experience press freedom without fear of harassment. #FemaleJournalistsSafety #PressFreedom
