Can I justify paying £44 for a half marathon 🤔 moneys always tight but I want to start and stick to it this year. Not at the half marathon distance but giving myself 5 months? #ukrunchat

@joselfas @UKRunChat That's good 😊 If you can try and set a regular routine with building up the walks and gradually adding in more running. Having a plan makes you accountable. Make it realistic so you know you can fit it in around 'life'. 😊 Consistency is key in getting your fitness back. 😊

I'm very motivated to want to start my running again, haven't been consistently running for a good few years (about 9/10 years ago did a lot). To get back to it, am I best to treat it as if I have never run before? Really want to do my local half next year #ukrunchat @UKRunChat

@joselfas @UKRunChat Have you been doing any exercise at all? If not just start with walks & gradually increase the distance and speed, that'll give a good base to start running from. Then perhaps try a couch to 5km app and go from there. Get the right shoes, warm up and cool down/stretch & enjoy! 😊

Well, I've ran in my time but one of the best views ever, ocean city aka plymouth. Definitely determined for the half marathon in may next year with views like this. I felt in control, struggled at times, but listened to my body. strava.app.link/v3x9oij5kKb

@RachelBuk @UKRunChat I've got dad fitness I.e eating everybody's left overs haha. But appreciate the advise I've never really been a cross trainer so walking is probably the most I do but walking is still building up the legs and fitness at the end of the day

@joselfas @UKRunChat It depends if you have any fitness at the moment. If not start by doing things easy, walking, add in gentle swimming and cycling if that's your thing or anything else which will help build fitness and strength slowly. Just take it easy and avoid injury. 😊

@UKRunChat @joselfas Yeah, your head will say you can but your body will say you can’t run like you used to. Take it easy, it may be an impatient process but it’ll be worth it…..

@irongirl41 @UKRunChat And tonight I did exactly this. Mile and half rather than 6 miles which used to be my easy runs. Also pace about 2/3 minutes slower than my previous pace. Felt good. Just need consistency

@joselfas @UKRunChat I did the same last August after about 5 years off...started and approached it like a newbie but did get a coach to help me as I couldn't let go of the pre-baby running me mental challenges! I've gone from 2:26 to 2:02 in 8 months...run for fun and it will come #ukrunchat

@joselfas @UKRunChat Forget your past glories, they were achieved by someone else. Treat is as a brand new thing, most training techniques, equipment, nutrition etc have changed and moved on. A HM next year is absolutely doable and I recommend a local parkrun to help get back into it. Good luck.

Need to find an app that will allow a challenge for most miles done between me and a few of my work friends (that's free) like the challenges on Strava but we've run out of free challenges. I've got a Garmin they've got Google, anyone know of any please? #ukrunchat @UKRunChat
