Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great @JohnLithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-lesso…

For many in the 06th Army Reserve Potential Officers course, it was a day they felt would never arrive! But it did, congrats to all on successful completion of training and on receiving your commissions! A proud day for all, the class were joined by family, friends and the public for the ceremony in the Defence Forces Training centre in the Curragh. Over the course of their training they have completed numerous military, tactical, physical and academic challenges as they trained to become the newest leaders of the Óglaigh na hÉireann. The Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Seán Clancy said: "Today, as you receive your commissions, you embark on a remarkable path of service to the nation. The opportunities before you are boundless - opportunities to lead, to build on the excellent training you have received, and to serve and contribute to Óglaigh na hÉireann with integrity. You have been entrusted to uphold our values by wearing our uniform and carrying the responsibility that this brings, which I am confident you will do with pride and dedication. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead with courage and commitment. Comhgairdeas agus fáilte Oifigigh nua." #defenceforces #officers #army #ireland #training #commissioning

How Ireland can make sustainability work for the future of farming in 300 seconds With the insight of Enda Buckley, Director of Sustainability at @CarberyGroup 🗣️: "Why would you pursue sustainability? It actually makes financial sense : More money in the farmer pocket, obviously leaving the farm in a better state for the next generation, which is always at the forefront of farmer minds." Introducing the Farm Zero C project which is in collaboration between Carbery, @biOrbic_centre, @ucddublin, @teagasc, @tcddublin, @MTU_ie and others. This project was also presented by James Gaffey, Co-Director of the @CircBio at MTU, last week at the @dptcentre Summit @BiorefineryIE Following video of this Series: November #RDSVision #Vision300 #RDSEnt #Agriculture #Farm

Von der Leyen's speech to the DLD Nature conference in Munich last week is well worth reading in full, a plea to dramatically ramp up action to reverse nature losses through market-based incentives including nature credits buff.ly/4e4Wuy6

Dear followers, after witnessing the deterioration of Twitter/X, I have just created an account on Bluesky. My handle there is @DAcemogluMIT.bsky.social I might try to post a few things on both platforms for a while, but I'm hoping to slowly transition to Bluesky over time.

This is Namatai Kwekweza, a young Zimbabwean activist who was abducted from a plane last week by crookED Emmerson’s secret service thugs. As you can see, she was beaten and held incommunicado for 8 hours at Robert Mugabe Airport. She is accused of committing a crime in Zimbabwe on a day she was actually in South Africa. crookED Emmerson’s secret service thugs hid her passport so she couldn’t prove her location on the day she is supposed to have committed the so called crime. However, the South African travel agent who issued her ticket has confirmed that she was in South Africa. The fact that she was arrested and tortured by state security thugs is deeply disturbing and highlights the challenges faced by activists and opposition figures in Zimbabwe. It is crucial that her case be brought to light and that pressure be applied to ensure her safety and release, as well as that of other detained activists. Zimbabwe has a president with a criminal mind who has looted public funds and plundered the country’s natural resources ruthlessly. Whenever he is challenged, he abducts, tortures, arrests, and jails those who stand up to his criminality! Namatai Kwekweza's story is a reminder of the importance of defending human rights and promoting democracy, even in the face of opposition and repression. RETWEET her sorry so that the world understands what Zimbabweans are up against!
