@kristapley I prefer when it was on Mondays. I always felt there was more competition for things to watch/do on a weekend for something not sports related, and believed the ceremony lost its luster bc of it. Plus, they had the whole weekend to push the Oscar nominated films in theaters.

@jowrotethis Loved this ep! Surprised nobody found out that Billy has a lookalike brother named Bobby, who was in Tremors and was SG’s bud in Can’t Hardly Wait—explaining why he seemed more prolific than he was. In @TheRewatchables parlance, did Billy get market corrected by his own brother?

@kristapley after reading DiCaprio’s NBR speech it made that moment you captured all the more moving.

@ThatKevinSmith rather than compiling my collection I’ll just go with a couple laserdiscs (“FUCK DVD!”). I first saw “Clerks” when I rented the laserdisc, then listened to the commentary track—the first I ever listened to. Like eavesdropping on a hilarious group of friends.

@VanLathan Dana Carvey did the same thing a couple weeks ago to Dennis Quaid on his “Fly on the Wall” podcast, when toward the end he told Quaid he should do a movie with Russell Crowe. Seriously!

A little backstory … Russell Crowe cucked Dennis Quaid. Crowe did an awful movie called “Proof Of Life” with Quaid’s then wife -and America’s sweetheart- Meg Ryan. Sparks flew during filming, leading to Meg and Russell FUCKING HARD. Divorce happened after.

@BilgeEbiri Yep. Also, THE FABELMANS showed us where he got the thrill of chasing tornados (even in the New Jersey suburbs).

@kristapley Watched my 4K Steelbook Saturday , in which my wife was shocked I pretty much knew it every line word for word all these years later, thanks to “Speed” being one of a few laserdiscs I had as a teen and watched constantly. Your podcast was incredible and a joy, and I thank you!

@mattzollerseitz Arguably the most incredible shots in the film were improvised by Spielberg, including Sammy dissociating when Spielberg realized he did exactly that when shooting. Seemed like he avoided understanding his POV until shooting, to avoid getting in his head and getting scared off.

Thinking about that dining room mirror shot in The Fabelmans. One of the most witheringly honest self-assessments I’ve ever come across.

RT if you’ve ever purchased a movie ticket for something you knew you weren’t gonna be able to attend, just to support the filmmakers or the venue

@baddestmamajama Just awful. Saw my wife for the first time there when we were kids seeing a movie there, and saw “Challengers” there a couple weeks ago. Plus, the theater has the BEST popcorn. Regardless of the ownership changes the consistency of independent cinema has been heartening.

When I turned 17, we moved across town and I spent a whole summer walking 2 blocks to an independent theater to see whatever was playing. 20 years later, my first feature screened there to a sold-out house. They’re turning it into a planet fitness. pressdemocrat.com/article/news/s…

@SeanFennessey @TheBigPic My fellow in physical media worship missed out on the blu-ray of “Go” (with metallic cover) before Sony discontinued it for some reason? Damn. Hopefully a foreign pressing can be reasonably had on eBay.

@bdgrabinski I just want to find the “Bra” of this van I saw several years ago and tell them the great news.

Last thread went BONKERS, so let's start clean. Some of you are sitting on codes for that place where we chill and I share pictures of Whiskey. Some of you would love a code to go there. Post here if you wanna share with other good folk so we can continue to chill rent free.

@BittrScrptReadr Also, I remember when Maher had a PI special after the ‘99 Oscars where he trashed “The Thin Red Line,” calling it “Saving Private Ryan” for gay guys (though probably my memory of it sanitized his remarks) because the film was poetic.

@BittrScrptReadr I had very similar taste back then. And PI then still felt like a grab bag of taboo remarks that was just tasteless rather than truthful commentary (having rewatched “The Clinton Affair” docuseries the clip of BM and M. Moore from PI is commentary that you’d find on Fox News)
