@DrDiGiorgio I live in Montana. I saw a patient from Canada with lumbar stenosis and terrible neurogenic claudication for over two years. He was on a list behind over 1,000 other people to see a spine surgeon in Calgary. I saw him and did a one level laminectomy two weeks later. He did great.

50,000+ Canadians cross the border each year to pay cash for medical care in the US, including Canadian lawmakers.
People are willing to pay money and make tradeoffs if they can’t get access to care.
We should empower Americans to seek out the best care for themselves. Patients using cash equivalents to seek care allocates resources more efficiently than having government bureaucracy say who can and can’t get care. Subsidize those who need it and watch the market flourish.

@anish_koka when I was a resident (20+ yrs ago) in hosp near Canadian border, mother of one of my fellow residents (Canadian) was denied bone marrow transplant because she was "too old" (she was 61 or so) & no out-of-pocket option. Came across the border, paid for the transplant & lived.
