@joshjdhf

If you removed someone's veins, arteries, and capillaries, and lined them up end-to-end, it would wrap around the earth twice. And I think you should.

@LoretoDoesFBA @ryangrim SNAP fraud is 1%, about $1 billion, less than 0.1% of the pentagon's budget. Seems pretty good to me, considering, again, patchwork systems and budget cuts. This isn't even the first time military aircraft were misused to entertain Kid Rock! You don't need to defend this, man.

@joshjdhf @ryangrim Maybe we should review it and make necessary changes instead of accepting it as "hard". A fam flight occurs infrequently. And its budgeted for. So not really misuse in this sense.

Scoop: Kid Rock flew to Fort Belvoir this morning on his private jet and took a little joy ride on 2 Apache helicopters with War Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to multiple Army sources, and backed up by flight data. Apaches typically have 2 pilots, but they went up with one so the boys could each ride shotgun, I'm told. Apache helicopters are not stationed at Ft. Belvoir so unclear where they came from. A spokesperson at the base referred questions to the secretary's office.

@LoretoDoesFBA @ryangrim Administering a giant, patchwork, chronically underfunded food assistance program is hard. By contrast, preventing individuals from misusing hundred-million-dollar military aircraft for their own personal benefit should be extremely easy.

@joshjdhf @ryangrim Its possible. However, the overall abuse of SNAP and welfare programs far exceeds this. Maybe we should clean that up first.

@LoretoDoesFBA @ryangrim An apache attack helicopter costs somewhere between $2,000 and $10,000 per hour of flight time - probably the lower end in this case, since no weapons were used. This one hour joyride cost more money than an entire year of SNAP benefits for a typical family.

Who cares? Military does flights like these for servicemembers. Who cares if they do it for the SecWar or a civilian? Im not an Apache pilot but I'm guessing there is only 1 actual pilot and the other is weapons officer/co pilot. Both dont fly it together. Throwing shit to see what sticks.

@Sherveen @edzitron I guess I wouldn't know, but: is Anthropic advertising their model as "so incompetent, if it was a person you'd lose your job for hiring them?"

@edzitron This is a scathing indictment of AI in the same way that if... ... you hired a software engineer in 2012 and they accidentally deleted something in production, it would be a scathing indictment of human employment.

@Kingfan5151 @mehdirhasan You construe your team as "people who voted biden/harris." I construe my team as "people who pressed the blue button." It's not enough just to support the right candidate. You gotta push the button.

@AlanRic96729535 @NathanJRobinson The standard for discourse on twitter is so rotten. This might actually be the first comment I've ever seen make use of Kant's philosophy rather than just his name :) There's a reason this point forms the foundation of an entire branch of ethics: it's a good one!

@NathanJRobinson For a social primate, EVERY social action, EVERY ethical choice is “virtue signaling”—it’s saying, “In these circumstances, this is what I think is the ethical choice.” All ethical behavior always “signals” to others. 1/

"Virtue signaling" is so often talked about as a negative, but in this essay I argue that a lot of what is dismissed as virtue signaling is an important aspect of the way that we establish moral standards and thereby pave the way for making progress: currentaffairs.org/news/in-praise…

IDGAF about shoplifting because it doesn't harm anyone. Wealth hoarding and the commodification of basic human needs harms unsaid numbers of people and is actively violent, but is seen as acceptable behavior because punching down is the system at work while punching up is a crime

@wideofthepost In contrast to Asimovian robot fables, the crisis won't be *delayed* recognition of AI personhood, but the premature assertion of it. The law will create millions of new "people," by their nature enslaved by their creators, but without any actual agency or self-awareness.

🤣🤣🤣 No matter how much you want it to be different, it’s a settled argument. Muslims conquered Christian lands in the Levant, Mesopotamia, and North Africa. Before the conquest the area was largely made up of Christianized populations under Byzantine and Sasanian (Persian) rule, including Aramaic-speaking Arameans/Assyrians, Copts, Berbers, Greeks, Jews, and Persians. If the colonialism didn’t happen, it would still be Christian lands.

@joshjdhf @Sturgeons_Law 🤣🤣🤣 Huh? So, because they stayed and converted, the Muslims weren’t the conquerors who made them convert or die, or pay ransoms?

@Globus1996 @Sturgeons_Law Huh? When the Levant was conquered by Muslims, the vast majority of people living there stayed there! Does someone stop being "indigenous" when they marry outside their race? When they convert? When they lose a war?

🤣🤣🤣 Thousands of years? Palestinians are Arabs. Arabs are from Arabian peninsula. Arabs came to the Levant, North Africa, and Mesopotamia to conquer, convert and colonize. Jews are the last indigenous inhabitants in the region who haven’t been conquered. And you can’t stand it.

Feel like not enough people are pausing to appreciate just how truly deranged this is. Casablancas criticized Israel then the SF Chronicle rushed to publish an article about a 13 year old Casablancas attending a “Trump linked event”. 13 years old. “Linked”. 13! “Linked event”!

A resurfaced 1991 photo shows a young Julian Casablancas at a Trump-linked event, drawing attention as the Strokes frontman faces backlash over recent political remarks. sfchronicle.com/entertainment/…

@Auberon_Quin @MattBruenig @homer78749 @sonofavondruk @KelseyTuoc Problem is the regulatory environment. We can't rely on individuals to simply choose to be good - "profitable-but-evil" business practices need to be outlawed, or the companies that abuse them will always have an edge over those that don't. ofc, UHC is *particularly* evil I hear

Piker's views on theft are bad, but they really do pale in comparison to his views on murder: that the important thing about Brian Thompson's murder is that healthcare CEOs are 'engaging in a tremendous amount of social murder' due to 'the structural violence of 'poverty'
