@Pakzadesque @arash_tehran Very explicit Iranian support would serve Iran’s own interests and somewhat help the cause of peace. But I would agree that Gaza’s annihilation and the occupation (+Western inaction, Iranian backing for the axis of resistance) have much more of an effect.

Iran committed in 2006 and took part in subsequent reaffirmations. It did not protest until November 2023, at the Arab‑Islamic summit in Riyadh, where it entered formal reservations against the two‑state settlement. On this settlement, the issue lies with Israel, not its neighbors.

@IRIMFA_SPOX I remember the night #Kiarostami came back from Cannes bringing the first Palme d'Or home, and "brothers" were waiting for him at the airport to give him a lesson for the kiss he got on his cheeks. And I remember his masterpiece, Taste of Cherry, wasn't permitted to screen in Iran for decades. To be clear I'm very much against this war and what the US and Israel is doing there, which is destroying ordinary people's houses and lives. But I'm also strongly against what has been done in our country for decades to get us here. Can I be both? Since you seem to be worried about his house, know that the damage was limited to broken windows. As his son, I'm asking you to stop using my father's name. Keep him out of your rhetoric. Hopefully that house will outlast those who have brought ruin to our homeland.

@lepusoxoniensis Oui, certainement. « Le canada français » signifie l'ensemble des communautés canadiennes qui parlent français: les québécois, les acadiens, les franco-ontariens et ainsi de suite. Mais on n'appellerait jamais un québécois, un acadien ou un franco-ontarien « un français »!

I find it so perplexing how English speakers will call French-speakers "French" even when they aren't from France. Are Americans English because they speak English? Are Mexicans Spanish because they speak Spanish?

@ericesheng /A view of early typography/’s OUP edition is out of print, according to Hyphen Press (whose reprint is now also out of print). I don’t think it particularly treats Latin typography qua /Latin/ typography, but much of what it discusses was in Latin.
